Default Do migraines ever go away!!???!! HELP (magnesium)

ive posted here be4 & been a lurker for a bit.

i just need to know :: do migraines eventually subside? will there be a day
that i will not have one every darn day?

always had migraines since being a **** :: but least it was a nomral pattern.
2 weeks straight then 4 months off ::: i can deal with that.

think its due to head trauma i had when i was 16.
now 28 ive been getting them everyday for over a year....only had about 6 days
w/o one.

is there a light to this dark path
i have a great neuro
have tried imitex, amerge...now on replax helps a lot ::: but i end up taken it
more than 4-5 times a week :: and that isnt healthy. but if i dont take it i
end up in the ER puking non-stop & wishing for death.
recently had botox :: helps a tad :: but just a tad.
i also take
zanaflex
celebrex
elavil
some anti seizure med.
magnesium
& have tried fever few & tiger balm
sleep with that special pillow
use heating pad & ice packs daily
done MRI, altered my diet, massage therapy.
acupunture, physical therapy & chiro :: all this year alone

im at a loss...whats left...how can i live a normal life again.
i had one of my worse mirgaines tonight...had to take 2 relpaxs or i would have
been in the ER

i take more meds than most of my patients & im only 28.
i also fear the risks these meds might have on my body in the future...
thanks for listening i think i needed to vent a bit ::: but any helpful words
or ideas would be great.

:-)

I do not think it is normal, but I rarely have migraines anymore, and I had
them daily for over a year, and was dibilitated longer than that. I wish I
could tell you what "cured" me, if that is the right word, but I can't. In
a way, I kind of wish to have the migs back, as I now have multiple
sclerosis, and it has proven even more crippling. I really don't mean
that - migraines are evil - but at least I had found a med - Migr**** NS -
that helped them immensely. I don't have a med that makes the MS go away,
even for a little while...
Good luck and God Bless - may you find that miracle

Default Do migraines ever go away!!???!! HELP (headache)

I hate to tell you this, but you sound like your are in the same boat
as I am in. My Doctor calls it a transformed headache/Chronic Daily
Headache.

I too feel that I take more medications then anyone else my age. I
take or have taken every thing on your list plus more. I've tried all
the treatments as well. Currently I am taking Opiate therapy which
has provided a certain level of relief in intensity of the headaches.
When they do flare-up it is back to Imitrex, Frova, or Relpax to get
an assist. The reason I have all of them is my Dr gives me a bag full
of samples each time I see her. I usually have a script for Frova,
but the insurance company limits the amounts.

I wish I had some good news for you. However, other then to tell you
you aren't alone, I haven't any.

Default Do migraines ever go away!!???!! HELP (menopause)

I too am in that persistent headache boat. I am in my 60s & started with
migraine as a baby, so my best guess is that for me, the damned things will
not go away until I'm dead. Nevertheless, they do disappear for many at
menopause, so I wouldn't give up hope yet. For me, the monster actually
changed significantly post menopausal, although it was a gradual change. My
headaches are now more frequent than in my youth, but also far less severe.
I still get a "killer" occasionally, so they still exist for me, but the
constant stuff tends to be walking-around-I-can-stand-it sort of headache.

I wish i could be encouraging, but I probably sound like the rest of them.
I've only had the migraines for 11 years and like Zomby, mine have
transformed to daily. I pretty much rely on my Zomig, but I only have to
take one. Once in awhile I will have a spell without them. I never know
what causes that wonderful miracle or what causes it to stop, but I love it
when it happens. I just bask in the pain-free environment. For the most
part, I take my Zomig (only usually 1 pill) and move on. I've never been
able to find a preventive that worked.

I can say though that for many of us, we don't stop looking. When a new
drug come out, we tend to try it. We always hold hope in our hearts, as
that is what keeps us going. And you know, I continue to think I could be
in worse shape. I get up each day and go to work...I enjoy my life for the
most part. It gets to a point where you come to grips with what makes your
life work.

Keep looking, but work out what you need to in order to make things best for
you.

Good luck,
Michelle

Default Do migraines ever go away!!???!! HELP (depakote)

Wish I knew what to say to help that hasn't been said. -_-

I've had migraines usually when drastic wheather chanegs have happened
or when allergergen counts get too high. Sinus problems also serve to
aggrivate them. Over the summer months there became an increase whenever
the air was unstable due to storms systems. Wasn't until August to
November when we had constant weather changes the migraines became
weekly...then daily. And it's been that way since. If the doctor
hadn't given me samples of Maxalt not sure what I would have done.
(have enough chronic pain conditions as is.) I now take 250 mg Depakote
twice daily. Maxalt whenever there's "breakthroughs".

Have any idea what triggers them or if the triggers can be avoided?

And have you asked if another preventative medicine could be tried?

If it indeed would be due to head trauma only a doctor would be able to
check on it for you. Some conditions can manifest from head tramua. I
do know a condition where for some reason the nervous system reacts as
if the tramua and the pain involved is still occuring. RSD. (Reflex
Sympathetic Dystrophy -- http://www.rsds.org/ ) Others are caused by
other medical reasons. As commented, only a doctor would be able to
make that determination.

Default RSD Treatment was: Re: Do migraines ever go away!!???!! HELP

I am going to jump on Kami's message here about RSD, and let you all know
that there is an experimental study going on in Arizona right now that has
so far ( I believe, but am not positive, that there have been about 10
patients) a 100% success rate to make RSD go away. Dr. Ron Harbut in Page
Arizona (928-645-8123 is where he can be reached) "invented" this treatment,
along with a doctor in Australia, and it has given freedom back to the
people who have tried it. I wish I knew more about what the treatment is,
but Ron has a way of talking over my head most of the time! Anyway, someone
in our little world might benefit from this!

Here is a testimonial:
http://www.rsdhope.org/Showpage.asp?PAGE_ID=82&PGCT_ID=2421

The article was published in American Academy of Pain Medicine.
2002;3;147-155.
Hope this helps someone!

Thanks!
