Default Dr Te in NYC Too Busy To Talk On Phone With Patients Seeking PVP Advice

It has been my experience with Dr. Te is that you have to get an appointment
to talk with him in person. At this consultation visit he answered all my
questions but more importantly he did diagnostic tests that no else did.
From the results he gave me a definitive diagnois and a definitive solution.
He is one of the best research doctors in the country for treating prostate
diseases.

The telephone is satisfactory only for making an appointment with Dr.
Te, for he is too occupied with patients in his office to hold
telephone conversations. I understand that he will not do it. Having
been there several time, I can see why. Moreover, if you are not a New
Yorker (NYC, that is) accustomed to their rapid telephone exchanges,
the experience can be off-putting.

I highly recommend an appointment with Dr. Te. Meeting him should
remove all doubts that you are in the hands of a great physician. I
have been in his office for five times over the past 14 months, all in
preparation for the PVP. (I have an exceedingly large prostate and have
been on Avodart and Flomax to reduce its size; I am presently scheduled
for the PVP early in December.)

Most impressive of my appointments with Dr. Te was the time that Amtrak
arrived in NYC three hours late and it was 4:35 when I got to the
office. Everyone had gone, the door was locked. I found Dr. Te down the
hall, and although he was expected at a meeting at the time, he
returned to his office to check me out with a flow test and an
ultrasound. Now that's attentive medicine!

****,

Thanks for the post. I guess you are right and I'm sure Dr Te is a
nice guy. Even though I am originally from NY (not NYC however), I
still felt a call back or something would have been nice. I guess I
got spoiled because Dr Lin in FL does email you back when you write
him an email.

I would have to travel from Ohio to NYC just to see Dr Te, so I
thought I few questions answered early would help me decide. I have
relatives in NYC (and not FL), so Dr Te would be a better choice than
Dr Lin for that reason only. Right now I'm faced with having the HOLeP
procedure instead of PVP. In any case, I decided to write a letter to
Dr Te to see if he will answer back. I gave him all my medical data as
well. One thing I asked him is why have all these tests for a guy like
myself who has had 6 negative biopsies with ultrasound. The only test
I did not have is the flow test, and I cannot see why I need that when
I know I can hardly urinate with my 117-gram prostate. . Also, getting
the cystoscopy can be something he could do right before the procedure
versus a separate test two days before.

Will be interesting to see if I hear back from him.

Dan

There are several docs in Ohio doing PVP. Have you contacted any of them?

Dan (and any other Ohio BHP sufferers),

I know Te and Lin have great reputations on the newsgroup but
there are competent PVP Urologists in Ohio. Try Dr. Lapeyrolie
with Cleveland Urology, (216) 741-0080. He is listed and featured
on the Laserscope web site. I had a PVP from him in April and I
couldn't be happier.

Lewis.
