Default Encouraging results for cancer patients (cancer renal carcinoma)

Hi everybody,

I apologize for crossposting but I believe it is worthwhile.

Some exciting news has just been published today about an
antiangiogenic compound for cancer patients. Aeterna Laboratories, a
Canadian Biotech, released its phase III clinical trial results on
renal carcinoma. For a specific subgroup of patients, their product,
the Neovastat, increased the median survival time by 109% for patients
suffering of clear cell renal carcinoma with 1 metastasis in the lung.
These patients more than doubled their life expectancy from 12.6
months for the placebo group to 26.3% for the Neovastat group.

This subpopulation represents some of the "healthier" patients in this
study. It seems to confirm the paradigm that the earlier a patient is
treated with anti-angiogenic compounds, the better his or her chances
for a positive outcome.

Angiogenesis control has been confirmed again to be a promising
strategy to fight cancer. There is one dietary supplement on the
market with a similar mechanism of action, it's called CarTCell.

Best regards

Bill

Unfortunately this may not have been a pre-selected subgroup
and could likely be invalid statistical noise in a small population.

In truth the primary endpoint of the trial was not met, there was
unfortunately no statistically significant difference in survival on
intent to treat.

At best the result will serve to inform the design for the next
trial. Though more likely I bet Genentech will get there first.

don't even think about spamming that crap.

Even the Aeterna people emphasized over and over how the clinical
material in the Neovastat trial was much more concentrated and nothing
like the 'supplement' shark cartilage which they agreed was probably
worthless. The ****ogy was between bits of yew bark versus Taxol.
