Default Food & Exercise -- 11/8/2003 (yesterday) -- and drinking (calories fat weight)

Well, yesterday was a big refeed day -- big annual wine blowout
dinner. I planned to eat what I wanted and I did. There were lots of
courses -- though all small and relatively light. And there was lots
of wonderful wine. If you're interested, the menu is at:

http://www.kov-dc.org/menus/harvest_menu_2003.htm

Unfortunately (in some sense, anyway), my capacity for wine seems to
have decreased a lot since I've lost weight. And it may have been
affected by the fact that I was feeling like I was fighting off an
infection. I probably drank the equivalent of about one bottle of
wine. A year ago, this would have made me moderately high but no
more. Last night it really made me feel very drunk. And -- being
honest here even though it's unattractive -- I went into the ladies'
room after about 2/3 of the dinner and threw up. After that I didn't
drink any more, and ate little, but I threw up again after I got back
to my hotel room. I don't think anyone there knew -- most people had
drunk enough that they weren't all that perceptive -- but it wasn't
the way I wanted to end the evening. I have learned that I will have
to drink much less at such events in the future. (And I'm going to a
wine dinner -- though not on this scale -- next Saturday. I'll plan
to drink much less there.)

One good side of the evening: I wore these great wide-legged black
pants (size 12), and clingy, glittery top with a plunging neckline
(size medium). I thought I looked pretty good (and others seemed to
agree :-) .)

Anyway, here's the data -- dinner calorie estimates are very rough.
Of course, I don't know how much of the dinner calories I actually
absorbed, in the cir***stances. But that's not the way I want to
limit calories!

8:45 (home): 2 poached eggs on whole wheat toast w/ 3 slices melted
f/f cheese

10:15 (home): 1 cup red g****s

12:30 (driving to Charlottesville): energy bar

afternoon (hanging around in the hotel w/ friends): 1 package Ritz
Bitz; an ounce or so of mixed nuts; 1/2 package of animal crackers

evening -- 6:00 - 11:30 (wine dinner): lots of wines; appetizers
(breadsticks wrapped in prosciutto, rutabaga cups w/ bagna cauda
(anchovy stuff), rare tuna on toasted brioche); scallop terrine w/
fennel salad; pumpkin soup; ravioli with oxtail filling; campari &
orange sorbet; venison loin w/ lamb sausage and little veggie purees;
cheese plate; lemon tart; cookies (Ate almost none of the cheese &
dessert courses -- just a couple of tiny tastes.)

Totals: 2899 calories, 110g fat (34%), 249g carbs (34%), 111g protein
(15%)

Averages for the week: 1645 calories, 26% fat, 36% carbs, 36% protein
(A reasonable average despite the big dinner, because I'd been eating
too little earlier in the week.)

Chris - you know, it may not have been the wine alone, but also that your
system is not used to a lot of food all at the same time. Sorry you had your
evening tainted. Hope you are well now. Elise.

I agree with Elise. It might also have something to do with the fact you
weren't feel too well earlier in the week. I took a look at the website.
Sounds like a wonderful place. I think I spied a picture of you at the 2002
affair on their website.

Hope you're feeling better. Beverly

Could be. I've certainly never had that much reaction to that
quantity of wine before. But I do think my capacity has decreased.
I've noticed it before recently, though less drastically. I used to
know how to pace myself to avoid getting drunk. I think it will just
take some re-learning now that I'm lighter.

I'm feeling much better today -- maybe just a bit tired. I haven't
eaten all that much yet but am hungry now -- am going to go get a bowl
of cereal or cottage cheese or something.

It isn't so much a place as a club. We have events at different
places. But they're all very cool -- if excessive :-).

Definitely! Thanks!

I'm sorry you had stomach problems. It happens to me if I eat something
that's too rich or fatty.

But, isn't it great when you look good and others notice it? That happened
to me last night. I wore a babydoll metal shirt (from the band Nile) and my
lowriders. My tummy's not perfect yet, but it looks pretty darned good when
I **** it in. : ) A lot of my friends complimented me throughout the
evening.
