Default Getting Legroom seats...

being 6ft8in, as we are all well aware, travelling on airplanes is a
daunting experience. I wondered what stunts people have tried to get
legroom seats. I still find it outragous that the seats get filled with
people that have no need for these seats, when people that do are
squeezed in elsewhere...

Am flying soon, and have a plan. In advance i'm going to prepare a
legal looking do***ent, along the lines of..

"I ............(name) representing .......................(company)
confirm that we refused Mr X an extended legroom seat, after receiving
his request for the said mentioned seat for flight number ........... on
.............., and confirming inperson that he is indeed 6ft8in tall.

We thereby accept any liability caused by out refusal to issue the
requested extended legroom seat.

Signed ***************xx

"

Wonder if it will work!!!!!

From article <41447aca$0$36040$ed2619ec@ptn-nntp-reader01.plus.net>, by Black Shuck <mark.gillespie@gmail.com>:

I feel your pain but have to say at 7'4" I have been treated fairly well
by the airlines. It is rare that I don't get put into an exit row or first
class if that isn't available and they have first class seating.

Your best bet is to get to the counter, not the gate, before you depart
and talk nicely to them about your problem.

I guess I figure for domestic flights the time is short. If I do get stuck
in a regular seat and CAN get between the seats (sometimes I can't) I ask
the guy ahead not to tilt. Of course if they try nothing happens anyway.

I am 6'6", and have been working on this topic for years. All the
airlines seem to do (even at the counter) is check if an exit seat is
available. If not, they ASK (not tell) the people in the exit seats -
usually of average height - if they would voluntarily give it up to a tall
person who needs it. Not a great effort on thier part. But just part of the
discrimination that is part of being exceptionally tall.
I have tried to get a statement of their official policy toward
accomodating tall people - but with no luck. Basically they dont give a
shit.
This is something that we really need to work on . . . together. Power
in numbers. Anyone have a website or link addressing this issue?

Not true necessarily, FAA regs require exit rows to be blocked at the gate,
although the rules are often bent.

You will be escorted off the plane. The ticket will state that they have
a right to refuse you service.
