Default Help -- bleeding with sinusitis??? (sinus infection)

I seem to have a nasty sinus infection, mostly in the upper sinus
(ethymoid--sp).

Anyway, I'm getting lots of yellow gook. My problem is that I'm bleeding a
lot too. It seems I have no problems blowing out the gook (which provides
quite a bit of relief) but over the last few days the bleeding has
increased. Basically, every time I blow my nose, half the stuff is yellow
crap and now half seems to be fresh blood. I'm trying to blow gently, but if
I blow just enough to get everything out, the blood comes too. (It started
out as just a little blood but as I said it's more now). It also get in my
throat and I cough up blood (but clearly from a little bit of back nasal
drip).

I haven't seen any reference to bleeding in the sinusitis descriptions. Is
this unusual?? Or is it just a typical symptom?

Default Help -- bleeding with sinusitis??? (high blood pressure)

you are getting gook, so i'm guessing it's not a dry, chapped, cracked
condition inside your nose causing the bleeding?

but, keeping the humidity at a decent level is always a good idea. i
often got nosebleeds during the winter when the air was cold and dry
outside and warm and dry inside.

i probably can't be much help. but, i'm guessing if the nose blowing
has been very frequent and maybe just a little to hard at times you
have burst blood vessels and they aren't getting a chance to heal up
enough between blows?

i think high blood pressure can contribute to nosebleeds also.

I find blood is usual with irritated linings. How about trying a saline wash
(I use waterpic with grossan tip). That will help remove the gook and can
quell the blood too, saltwater can help shrink vessels and clean.

Default Help -- bleeding with sinusitis??? (nasal)

It's not uncommon, and it's happened to me, though not to the same
extent that you are describing.

If you're using a steroid nasal spray or oral steroids, that is going to
exacerbate the problem further because steroids inhibit wound healing.
Ask your physician about lowering the dose or cutting it out altogether.
You might also consider taking a zinc supplement which might help healing.

There are many reasons why there can be blood associated with nasal infection
If the bleeding is more than 2 weeks, you should have it checked.

Default Help -- bleeding with sinusitis??? (mucous)

DR. Grossan:

I saw my family doctor on Monday. He looked in my nostrils and thinks he saw
the source (or at least a source) of the bleeding and it is not serious (I
guess it is the mucous membrane between my nostrils on each side).

The sinuses seemed to improve somewhat but now it has worsened again. I'll
have to resume drinking green tea as you suggested. I've also been breathing
in salt water (from a tiny squeegee container).

I have a prescription for an anitbiotic, but my doc suggested (and I agree)
that I try and see if I can't get over this without taking it (I think its
Ceflex or something like that). I dug out my old water pik and Grossan tips
so I might use that. Do you have any suggestions or anything else to add??
The bleeding still gets me worried a bit.

If you're prone to bleeding, use the irrigator on its lowest setting.
Forcing water into your nose might start the bleeding again.

And take a zinc supplement--might speed healing.

Default Help -- bleeding with sinusitis??? (constipation)

maybe you might want to try a supplement you can probably get at any
well stocked health-food store called Chlorophyll.

I just found the following info on it and it's sounds like a good
indication of something that might be very helpful for sinus problems.
I'm gonna give it a shot.
**********

Chlorophyll acts as an anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, deodorant, and
antioxidant. It has been successfully used in the treatment of chronic
ulcers, bad breath, and oral diseases. It reduces flatulence and body
odor and eases chronic constipation. Chlorophyll has been shown to
alleviate infections of the lungs and sinuses. It hastens wound
healing, and has been used to treat kidney stones. When taken with
antibiotics, chlorophyll induces rapid recovery from secondary
invasive infections. Chlorophyll has been demonstrated to have
radioprotective, anti-mutagenic, and anti-carcinogenic activities in
laboratory studies.

Default Help -- bleeding with sinusitis??? (cancer)

LOL. I was reading the description and figured next thing I know they will
say it cures cancer. Lo and Behold, it did refer to that at the end.

It sounds good, but it also sounds like puffery from some web-site.

But, it might be worth a try!
