Default How do I determine value of donated hearing aids? (aids)

I have donated my deceased grandmothers hearing aids and need to
figure out the value for tax purposes. The place I donated to would
not value the aids. They were 3 year old digital ITE's that she paid
$6000 for. Any ideas?

For custom aids, the value is zero. They cannot be reused.

That's an inaccurate answer, offered by someone who sells new aids.

The value of *anything* is what someone else is willing to pay for it. Find
similar aids that sold on ebay, print the pages and average the numbers, and
use that average on your tax return. Totally defensible.

Re-use is another point. There are shops that will pull apart those old aids
and repackage the key ingredients (mic, receiver, chipset, etc.) into a new
ITE, etc., aid in a new earmold. Since a digital aid from the maker costs
the audiologist about $1000-1100, and the rework might cost $200-250, it can
be worth the effort.

You are a very low class individual.
Odd for an engineer or a marine, both of whom tend to be more respectable.

Your inaccurate answer was shown to be embarrassingly indefensible,
evidenced by your silly ad hominem attack. Such self-serving misinformation
is odd for a professional, even for Ridenhour.

What is custom is the case. a new custom molded case to fit the new users
ear would cost one hell of a lot less than the electronics of the aid.
taking electronics form an old ITE and fitting them to a new case would cost
a lot less than a brand new ITE from the manufacturor

He has been a narcissistic asshole who has been alienating people
here for years. Why people put up with him is a mystery to me.

True, but a query to the IRS would give the answer I did. He asked about its
value as a tax deduction.

Ah, John Fuller crawls from beneath his rock spewing his hateful prose.
Merry Christmas to you, too, Sordo/JohnFuller.

Nonsense. Don't worry, your silliness will go away with a little more age.
It's difficult to for you be a child, isn't it?
You'll grow out of it.
