Default How long does Viagra stay in the blood stream?

According Pfizer's literature, Viagra has an effective window of about
four hours. I took a 100mg dose approximately 16 hours ago, and while
the facial flushing and headache have long subsidied, I am still
becoming erect with even the slightest stimulation. This doesn't
necessarily bother me <wink wink>, but it does seem a bit unusual.
Wonder if it's really the V, or if it's due to the increased blood flow
during the night and the psychological "boost" from a successful
performance.

Anyone else have this experience?

I find that - the effects of Viagra can last much longer than the four hours
they suggest. If I take a dose in the morning I find that I can still be
getting stiff that evening. It's not reliable though - I'd not want to take
some and assume that it would still be working 8 - 10 hours later!

General rule of medicine (after the one about not taking stuff you don't know
the pedigree of), is to take the minimal amount to resolve the problem and no
more. People who skip rule 1 tend to skip the rest of the rules as well, but...

If you read the literature at the Pfizer and other legitimate sites, you'll see
that the typical dose is 50mg, with 100mg reserved for special cases. Since
you've doubled the amount in your body, you will also get a longer noticable
effect. Of course you may also be getting some unidentified long term side
effects as well.

I'd suggest you try cutting back - you'll at least save a few bucks.

Scott;

It's about "half-life."

The "half-life" of Viagra is just a little over 4 hrs. This means that 4
hrs after ingestion of, say, 50 mg of V you still have 25 mg working for
you. If you had taken 100 mg, you'd still have 50 mg operating.

For comparison, the half-live of Cialis is about 17 hrs. and this accounts
for the longer duration of its effectiveness.

Yup, occasionally the same response. Just the
physical stimulation of loose clothing without any
associated mental activity has caused me to have
sudden erections--what I call, "the ninth grade
syndrome." It's happened in grocery stores,
walking up to the first tee at the golf course and
while sitting in a business conference. (It's the:
being called to the blackboard in Algebra and
causing all the girls to whisper and giggle!)

Usually these erections last less than a minute once
I start moving but I'm always self-conscious in that
people will think of me (age 70) as a ****
daydreamer.

70 mg is a dose level that seems to avoid this for
me; however, my self confidence at 100 mg is always
better. I think I've found a solution in avoiding boxer
shorts after I've taken Viagra in the a.m.
