Default Husband's Vasectomy - update (scrotum down haematoma)

There's a lot of bruising, which has now come out on the shaft of the penis.
There's one area in particular which is quite dark with ac***ulation of
blood under the skin. It's not painful but my husband is a little concerned
that it could be a haematoma. Looked around on the internet, and found loads
about haematoma in the scrotum, but nothing about on the penis. Also,
nothing about what we should do.

Has anyone else experienced this?

So now it's 55 hours after the op, and although there's lots of bruising,
there's no pain around the scrotal area. The main site of any pain is low
down in the gut, front and back as if he's been kicked. It's worst when
bending or getting in/out of the chair or bed. Normal, methinks, at this
stage. Also some muscular pain due to being tense during the procedure. Some
slight weeping of clear fluid from the site of the incision, but this is
minimal, and there's no pain at the incision site.

Just some slight concern about that bruising on the penis, although there
isn't any swelling here, so could be just bruising. If we're still concerned
in the morning I'll get him to give the doc a call.

Well, looks like I'll be laying my own patio..............

Default Husband's Vasectomy - update (vasectomy job abdomen)

Hi Tracey,

concerned

All men have different experiences when it comes to bruising and swelling.
Some men have virtually no swelling and bruising (as in my case), and at the
other end of the scale you can get some spectacular bruising happen! I did
once find some pictures of severe bruising post vasectomy, but when I came
to put a link on the website, they had gone. Anyway, the bruising in the
pictures I found did include bruising on the penis, so I suspect his
bruising is not abnormal.

Regarding the pain in the gut, this is what's known as a "referral pain",
EG, where pain surfaces elsewhere in the body from the actual injury. And
you are right - it's probably nothing abnormal at this stage. They don't
tell you to take it easy for nothing!

If you do an internet search you'll find they do occur in various areas. As
I understand it, in the womb, the testicles and kidneys form together and
then split up and move to towards the places they will eventually settle,
but some form of nerve pathway exists between them. If you get kicked in the
nuts by a toddler (been there, done that, go the T shirt), you will feel
pain in the abdomen. Kick a man in the nuts, and he'll always feel pain in
the areas you describe because of this effect.

To be honest, it sounds like you are slightly concerned, so my advice would
be to ring the doctor in order to let him know the condition, and allay your
worries. It does sound pretty spectacular though!

And you may well make an even better job of it than your husband!!

Default Husband's Vasectomy - update (kidney)

I did actually take some pictures of the bruising for posterity.....

That makes sense - last night he said his pain was around the kidney area.

Thanks very much, the advice and support we've had from here has been
brilliant, and has done a great deal to put our minds at ease.
