Yesterday I was invaded by newborns. My mother had her lung cancer surgery
yesterday. The procedure was about 6 hours so I spent a lot of time outside
hanging around the front of the hospital. The hospital is a VERY busy boston
hospital! As I was sitting out front one after the other came brand new moms in
wheelchairs carrying their mircales. I watched as the doormen escorted each
glowing woman to the car and the proud new dad came out to place his bundle of
joy carefully in the car
.....beaming with a huge proud smile. WOW....was I jealous! The feeling soon
passed......I decided to go back inside to wait with my family. As the hour
passed I found myself sitting out front again watching the parade of pink and
blue leave the front doors.
When the surgery was over I was able to go the the ICU to visit my mother for a
moment. In passing I had to walk by the neo-natal ICU unit. As I peaked through
the doors and windows I saw newborns in incubators hooked up to tubes and
machines holding onto life. I shed a few tears, said a silent prayer for the
sick newborns and realized more and more how painful primary IF really is.

Awwww...Cyndie! I'm so sorry -- I know how stressful it is to go
through a surgery like that, but to add babies onto the mix, it's
almost too much to bear. I hope you're feeling better toinight.

She is doing wonderful! They removed 15% of her lung and the lymph nodes under
both arms. The lymph nodes had no trace of cancer so as far as the surgeon is
concerned she is cancer free!!!! She was awake about 15 minutes after the
surgery. She was joking with everyone and causing a stir of laughter with all
of the nurses. It was then we knew she was going to be just fine! I am so glad
this chapter of her life is over and she is resting up to work on a new one!
Thanks for the positive thoughts and well wishes. I am going to visit her
today!

Boy, oh boy do I *know* how you feel. Sadly, my Mom was also
diagnosed with lung cancer ~ 3 weeks ago. She started her
chemotherapy on Thursday and was hospitalized for it. We were
trying to get her t.v. working when all that was on was about newborns.
I know exactly what you mean about being invaded. We could not
change the channels as the remote was broken. Finally, I got up on a
chair and turned the t.v. off.

Yes, primary IF is really painful and I wonder if and when the pain
will lessen.

Take good care Cyndie. I'm glad your Mom is doing well.
