Default I'm Back

I just got back fro visiting Mom's grave... I found it very easy to
cry... standing there by myself... talking to Mom...
Regarding those "thoughts" about self pity and "you are just being
morbid" that make me think that I am crazy... THANK YOU for letting me
know that I am not the first and only crazy person...
Love to ALL of YOU...
Joe

I tried to go over to my Dad's to cook for him... but his fridge is
full of donated food... this is the BIG HOLE in the day that used to
be filled with cooking and helping out with Mom and Dad. My Father who
is 82 years old, loves bologna and cheese sandwiches which accounts
for his fridge being full of God only knows what (including plenty of
bologna and cheese). Today was the first time that I have been alone
with Dad since Mom died... it was very comforting to me... and I think
to Dad too... that we could sit down and talk about Mom's health and
her treatment in the end... and of how we are coping. I hope and pray
that I can have more times of just chatting with him...

Nice to see you, Daniel.... I hope you're feeling better than you were a
week or so ago....

No. But what they can do is provide affection, companionship, and a focus
outside of yourself. If you're touch-hungry, a pet can be wonderful. Dogs
(sometimes cats too) can often sense when you're feeling low, and will do
their best to console you. And maybe best of all, a pet can make you laugh
.... they can be fantastically silly creatures.

(I love dogs, but can't have one in my apartment building... so I often
walk to a nearby park where there's a no-leash area, and get my vicarious
"dog fix." They can be so joyous and goofy and fun. Right after my mother
died, this was the only place I could go that would bring a spark of
happiness back into my heart. Thank God for it.)

Pets can't replace people... but they are great at being animals, and so
very skilled at showing us how to be in the present moment.

bunnies.... I swear by bunnies! do you know why they've got such long ears?
cuz their great listeners.... When my cousin died last March (has it been a
year already?!) I went into our rabbit room and sat down on a step stool,
opened the door to one of the cages and just started talking, crying,
complaining and ranting.... My sweet little bunny shoved his head into my
hand and I pet him.... he then reached up and licked the tears from my
face... He stood up on his hind legs and I kid you not, he had one paw on
each shoulder and nosed my cheek, sniffing, nibbling on my hair and licking
my face. it was his way of saying, "it's ok momma.... things have a way of
coming together. I'm here for you, talk all you want!" I cuddled with him,
gave him 3 craisins and he was happy, I was feeling better, he performed for
me by doing laps and binkies.... such a great little character! The beauty
of animals is that they love so unconditionally and so completely....

I get to touch dogs at work- my store allows owners to bring them in. I tend
to run for the treat bowl, since that gives me more time with them.

They are- but there's no room in my life for a cat or dog. It wouldn't be fair to the animal.

Me too...enjoy what you can, when you can....it's hard for me to see how time
ages my mom(ages us all too!) It's also easy to think one has all the time in
the world so they can see their parent whenever they want to, then feel guilty
when the parent dies before that happens. Taking life for granted hurts
all-sooner or later. It hurted me when my child died at 18 years of age.
Of course when parents age and die, it is more expected than having a child die
before you...Jo

two or three months??? you know, that sounds like a long time but then
a week ago today, we were getting ready for the funeral and that seems
like yesterday. This morning I had to check the computer to find out
what day it was... hard to believe that it has been a week...

Taking life for granted hurts
.. It hurted me when my child died at 18 years of age.

I can't possibly imagine that type of sudden tragedy... although I've
worried over my kids not coming home on time and imagining them being
in trouble... I just can't imagine those worries being reality... take
care... Geez... I wish there was something that I could say...
