Klonopin and snow in the desert! (anxiety down stroke weight)
Hi all,
Just wanted to say "so funny!" to Sharon in the north country where I figure it's a big cartoon that we sunshine types got two inches of the white stuff. Just kidding, Sharon! : ) I grew up in Colorado, so I love the snow myself. So did my Golden Retriever, Newton. It wasn't his first taste of snow though, as we had gone to Puget Sound the last two years at Christmas. Anything wet is fine for him, and cold is no problem for the furry sweetheart! It was on the news all day. First snow to stick for five years, so at 1:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., you should have seen the cameras, parents awakening sleeping kids to see their first snow, kids sledding for the first time on turkey servers or pieces of foil,(and a few had their grandfather's sleds stuck away and unpainted in their garages that they drug out). Everyone, including me, smiling and marveling at our "Christmas" snow in the wee morning hours. I even made some snowballs and threw them into the street just for fun about 2:00 a.m. It's a big deal here. Also, it's a big deal as everyone who lives in the desert knew that by 10 or 11 a.m., it would be gone...and it was, except on the mountains. Darn!! Only persons I knew who weren't thrilled were my surfer dude husband from Pismo Beach, CA. who threatened yesterday at work to not show up today if it snowed and was poohed and booed for the outlandishness of such a statement! Boy, did they look sheepish when he walked in this morning. (Of course, I had told him about the pink skies and snow if it gets cold enough....and I was right!) and the Easterners and Northerners who have moved here just this year to get away from that stuff. Desert people love it and snow on cactus and palms is a sight to see!
Anyway, back to the task at hand. Re: the Klonopin. I first got mine from Dr. Dan Peterson, who never, ever told me of the addictiveness of the drug, but then neither did the next eigh**** docs who followed his prescriptions with their own. AND I did go to a psychologist whom I told about wanting to get off the stuff, and of course, he couldn't help me as he's not a psychiatrist, and even asked why I wanted to quit it!!! Duh!!!!. So, I found out the very hard way about how addicted to it I was.....and no doctor yet has been really bent on getting me off the stuff once they find out I had a stroke going off it cold turkey. So I will probably end up either in the "bin" or going to a shrink first to get the ball rolling. I see Klonopin on about every list for prescriptions to give to CFS/FM patients for anxiety and sleep. Other than the weight gain that doesn't come off, period!.....the Klonopin hasn't given me any bad side effects at all. In fact, I would say it helped me immensely in the first few years BUT I wish I had been told how addicting it was. I refuse to escalate my dosage (other than the early time I got up to 6 mgs), and have gotten down to 1-2 mg many times, but I can't go completely off without help. When I do kick this stuff, and hopefully substitute it with something one can do with or without, I'll let everyone know if it was extremely difficult or do-able with help and meds. I don't fiend for it, but I do go into serious withdrawals without it.
Let's hope we all get anti-virals and don't need anything anymore. When I was 80% from my two anti-virals I tried, I didn't take anything to sleep, lost weight, had energy to do things without exertion, etc. So let's hope for this for all of us this year. Happy New Year, and we've got snipers on the rooftops for you who are coming to celebrate here, along with a few blackhawks over the strip!! Yea!! Now, all we need is AHNOLD or Vin Diesel and we've got a movie, folks!!! Sorry. It's just sad that it should come to this in this country.....Suzq, the old hippie
