below, and, below that the excellent agenda of scientific speakers.
I hope to see you all next week at the conference. Ellen

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lyme Disease Association/Columbia University College of Physicians &
Surgeons Conference Nov. 14 to Feature
New Research on Genomes of Lyme Bacteria

How Lyme Bacteria Cause Dementia Studied

NY Times Bestselling Author Amy Tan to speak on LymeAid4Kids Fund

Philadelphia PA, October 31, 2003-Open to physicians and the public, the
LDA/Columbia Conference offering 8.5 continuing medical education
credits (CME's) for physicians will feature new research in the area of
the genomic mapping of borrelia burgdorferi.* Mapping genomes and
identifying proteins can provide researchers with the key to unlocking
how some of the borrelia bacteria are able to produce Lyme disease while
others do not and can provide data for future vaccine development.

Work which provides insight into how Lyme disease in the brain causes
dementia will be showcased, as well as cutting edge studies on biofilms
and their potential medical implications, presented by one of the
world's leading experts on the topic. In addition, traditional
presentations on Lyme disease including testing, treatment, an
assessment of treating drugs, and psychiatric, neurologic,
gastrointestinal, and pituitary involvement will be made by noted
physicians and researchers. Other tick-borne diseases will also be on
the agenda.

Internationally acclaimed author Amy Tan will also appear and speak
about LymeAid4 Kids, a fund established by LDA for children whose
families cannot afford to have their children evaluated for suspected
Lyme disease. Ms. Tan is supporting the fund.

The conference will be held on Friday, November 14, at the Hyatt, Penn's
Landing, Philadelphia. Details and registration forms can be found on
http://www.LymeDiseaseAssociation.org
International Lyme & Associated Diseases Society (ILADS), a professional
medical society, conference on the clinical aspects of Lyme disease will
follow Nov 14 and 15 at the Hyatt and is open for members and non-member
health care professionals.
