Default Looking for diagnosis (amateur or not) (down sinusitis headache throat nasal)

Hi, one week ago (on a Friday), I had an extremely running nose.. the
fluid coming out of my nose was very thin... it had a density and
consistency corresponding closely to water. I felt somewhat run-down
and was ready for sleep at 7pm. Though I was forced by my family to
stay up and "be social".

I got up the next day (Saturday) and my head was pounding, I could
feel my pulse VERY easily on my temples (the veins were visible in the
mirror). My forehead was very hot and the fluid coming out my nose
was much thicker with tinges of yellow (not through and through
yellow). I spent the whole day drinking fluids and staying in bed
(mostly because I didn't have the energy to do anything else). I
couldn't even really watch TV because it hurt my eyes to look at the
picture for very long (I have no visual imparity - 20/20 vision
without correction).

The next day (Sunday) was similar - though all my symptoms were
reduced - headache was half as intense, blowing my nose less
frequently, etc. Then later in the day I picked up some decongestant.

The next day (Monday) I worked from home, I could now look at my
computer and even sneak in some TV. It didn't really hurt my eyes to
watch it, but I still had very low energy and doing any exertion (i.e.
walk down the street) made me sweat. My headache was pretty much gone
and I was blowing my nose even less often.

The next day (Tuesday) I felt mildly better, I went into work, but
still didn't feel up to working out so I just came home and went to
bed. This trend (going into work, not exercising and feeling slightly
better each day) continued right up until Thursday night. I felt so
good on Thursday that I actually did a workout. Friday morning I
still felt fine, went to work and came home. Friday night I went to a
party and drank some alcohol. I ensured that I more than doubled my
consumption of alcohol with consumption of water. The next day
(Saturday - today) I woke up late and I felt fine. I grabbed a tissue
and blew my nose and bright yellow fluid came out. For the rest of
the day I continued to feel fine and only blew my nose 3 times today,
but there was no recurrence of the VERY bright fluid from the morning.
Each time the fluid was of a "regular" consistency for nasal fluid.
I live in a cold climate so blowing your nose 3 times in a day from
coming in out of the cold is "normal". And now here it is (the end of
the day Saturday) and I still feel fine.

I should also mention that I never had any problems in my throat
during this past week. However, in the morning I have been
consistently coughing some discolored fluid up... but that is
unfortunately a regular occurrence for me in the morning when I
gargle. I.E. for as long as I can remember (at least past 10 years)
when I gargle in the morning I always cough up something nasty in the
morning. To elaborate, during the past week I never had any problems
speaking or any difficulties swallowing.

I suppose I had a mild case of sinusitis (infection of my sinuses)
from the start of the past week, but what happened this morning? Was
it just some random deposit of the discharge from the infection that
was somehow dislodged? Or am I likely now starting a new recurrence
of sinusitis? I should restate that I have no other symptoms at
present (i.e. no headache, energy levels are high, etc).

Thanks,
Novice

Do you have a prior history of sinusitis?

Because the symptoms you describe could just be a bad cold.

There's one sure way to know if it's a simple cold: Colds are
self-limiting, lasting 1-2 weeks.

So if you're fine in another week or so, then it was a cold.

Take care of yourself to prevent a relapse.
