Default MED: Dr. Teitelbaum (insomnia)

Hi everyone,

I have a new doctor at the immunology clinic which has been treating my
CFIDS for several years. She is very young and very enthusiastic about treating
PWCs. She has become enamored with Dr. Teitelbaum and his ways of treating
CFIDS. She has already decided that I need to go off my painkiller (Oxycontin
40mg twice/day). Now she's saying that my insomnia will get better if I just
don't spend as much time in bed.

I know that different people on this list have mentioned Dr. Teitelbaum at
various times. Could you all give me some feedback about what you think about
him and his ideas about CFS? Have you benefited from following his treatment
protocols?

Take care,
Carol

Carol, I don't recall those ideas being part of
Dr.Teitelbaum's ideas. You might want to look at a book
by him called "From Fatigued to Fantastic". The public library
should have copies. He was amedical student when he came down
with his case of cfids.

If you can get over spending time in bed you might be able to
rest better but...

She is trying to get you off your painkillers because of the
ideas forced on the medical profession by the DEA. They hate to
see people get adequate medication for pain and have lots of
prosecutions going on around the country of physicians who don't
follow their ridiculous guidelines. One doctor in the East has
been acquitted of over-prescription 3 times and they are not
satified with losing their case so they have started proceedings
against him for the 4th time. We used to have a physician who
worked with the list but he was harassed by the DEA and decided
to leave the list.

Dr.T. got better from his cfids because he was taken good
care of by the clinicians of the medical school he was attending. He had through diagnostic procedures and treatment of every problem
which could be detected by the physicians caring for him.

Dr. Teitelbaum's book is the best I have read on CFS. He often spends hours
with each patient.

I don't think your insomnia will go away if you spend less time in bed,
although it may help. This has helped me. I used to spend 10.5 hours in bed,
swapping to 9.5 has made a big difference. Dr. Teitelbaum has a sleep
nutrient/herb formula.

Default MED: Dr. Teitelbaum (diet allergy oxycontin)

I agreen with Bobbie, Carol. There is nothing that I know of in his book
regarding getting off of pain meds and reducing time in bed.

His treatments use both allopathic and herbal/vitamin remedies. One can go
to his website and, paying about $300, get a detailed health summary with
recommendations for improving your CFIDS/Fibromyalgia symptoms.

I have heard him speak twice. He is very compassionate and toward folks with
CFIIDS and FIBRO and believes in our recovery.

He does address ALL aspects of the illness--endocrine system, infections,
sleep, etc.

You might ask your doctor what alternatives she has in mind to help you
reduce or get off your dose of oxycontin.

I agree also with Bobbie that it would be worth your while to get a copy of
From Fatigued to Fantastic at the library or used at amazon.com.

My Fibro symptoms have been helped by cranial-sacral massage and regular
chiropractic treatment, by getting enough sleep that I can walk and stretch with
Yoga, and by following a low-carb diet with strict adherence to my dairy/egg
allergy.

Best wishes to you.
