Default Medication recommendation needed? (lens eye)

Don't take this the wrong way but my question didn't concern the point you
raise: It concerned why the phenomenon only occurs in one eye which implies
that there is nothing wrong with the lens; And therefore what you say is
completely wrong? Did you actually read my message or just arrive at the
obvious conclusion after the first few lines?

This does not imply a non lens related problem. Likely there is a
difference in the tear quality of the two eyes and your right eye tears
contain more lipids/proteins etc so the lens dirties faster. Since you are
treating these lense like non disposables, you may have developed Giant
Pappillary Conjunctivitis under the right upper eye lid; this is a lid
reaction to a dirty lens and was a common finding before disosables.

BTW, all soft lenses, no matter how well you clean them will develop a
biofilm bound to the lens after 60 to 90 days of wear. So I am sure that
your 6 month old lenses are coated.

Suggest you see your fitter to determine your problem and the solution. Dr Judy

Default Medication recommendation needed? (eye)

Hi Doc

Thank you for your informative reply: I am not sure that there is an actual
PROBLEM here as I am obviously using the lenses for not twice or three times
but around SIX times the recommended time frame. (Although I am a bit
suspicious of a manufacturer who recommends throwing his lens away every
day), one can hardly blame the lens or the manufacturer of this particularly
fine product for that?

What I was wondering was whether anything needed to be done to alleviate my
symptoms if I want to continue using these lenses until I determine that
they have reached the end of their life span: When they stop being
cleanable or stop letting me see properly. I suspect you have provided the
answer although I have posted elsewhere that this type of lens does SEEM
relatively impervious to lipid/protein build-up.

You seem to suggest use of some type of enzyme chemical protein remover
every month or so (which is normal for any lens). Isn't that a reasonable
solution for the symptom I have described? (Not sure if it would address
the problem being only apparent in ONE eye but it is certainly worth a try
if there is a chance that the other eye is more impervious to the sort of
build-up which I have described for whatever extraordinary reason)

Well, the obvious answer is to throw it away and replace it when it starts
to get uncomfortable or to cause blurred vision. Since your symptoms were
blurred vision, I think that defines the end of the life span.

As I noted, after about 2- 3 months, all soft lenses develop a bio film that
cannot be removed, even with enzyme cleaner. So your six month problem may
not have a solution other than lens disposal. Quite frankly, the cost of
monthly or biweekly enzyme cleaning for six months will approximate the cost
of replacing the lens at three to six months; you will save no money and
have added nuisance.

Many thanks for your advice: That is interesting: I had never heard anyone
say that before but if it is true, maybe I should go back to using the
Liprophen which I stopped using with extended-wears in the late 1970s which
DID strip off that film??
