I have been trying to bend my mind around this for awhile...

A woman I know is 31 and not married. This person is co-dependant on
her mother, and lives in a home her mother purchased for her. She
babysits for a living - is a state-licensed daycare provider for
low-income families. She has no health insurance, is obese and is
diabetic, which she currently controls with oral meds. She has been
off-and-on involved with a man who never finished high school and has
been in and out of jail his entire life. He is abusive to her and
they have some sort of twisted relationship - I can never get a
straight answer from her as to what is going on.

She recently talked another male friend (who is 45, on disability,
divorced and has two children already) into becoming a sperm donor for
her. Her plan is to get pregnant by this man, not require any support
from him, yet have the state pay for all of her health care, delivery,
neo-natal care, and apply for state benefits for the baby. This girl
doesn't have a proverbial pot to piss in, yet thinks it's ok to
purposefully bring a child into this situation, not to mention the
health risks she is taking for herself and her child. She called me
to tell me all about this great plan of hers. I am utterly,
completely speechless.

I know this sounds awful, but maybe because she is obese and diabetic she
won't get pregnant. I'm guessing that she plans on becoming pg the natural
way and not through AI. I swear, I think I need to start smoking crack and
drinking and become a self-absorbed bitch and then maybe I'll become pg.

I've also had my share of idiots lately. At the shelter, we've been
dealing with a young woman who's pg and needs to surrender who one year-old
male cats because they are spraying. We offered her *free* neutering, but
she "can't deal" with them. Now, she's missed her surrender appt twice
because she's "busy". I could go on about some other situations, but you
get the idea.

It's funny. She claims they are doing IUI but when I tried to talk to
her about it, she was totally clueless and kept asking me questions
about how to tell when she would be ovulating. $50 says she's going
to just do the guy. No doubt she'll get pg the first try.

Geez. I hate people sometimes.

If there is a god keeping me from getting pregnant because he is busy being
sure whatever-her-name-is is having a girl on her daddy's birthday, then he
will surely give this be-otch AIDS trying. Sorry, rough week.

I am a Licensed Child Day Care Provider and we are NOT baby sitters, I have
never, and never intend to sit on any children and I do alot more than "sit"
them infront of a television and "sit" on the sofa and eat bon bons all day.
I dont' know this woman so I can't speak for her but please do not paint all
child care providers with the same brush - in home or in centers as
"Babysitters", a baby sitter is someone who minds your child for a few
hours, a child care provider cares for and offers a structured learning
invironment for children. I work 12 hour days, 5 days a week, I am NOT a
babysitter.

The rest of your post... it sounds like the classic story of "I can't find
anyone to love me my life is a mess - maybe a baby will make it better"
thats a shame for the child.

Well, that's what she calls *herself*, so don't be pissed off at ME.
And I can hardly call what she does a "structured learning
environment". She is more more along the lines of one who sits on her
ass all day and plops the kids in front of the tube.

I wish I could take back the crack comment, because I thought you were a
spammer (my bad), but I still don't understand why you said the last

I didn't, did I? I only stated her occupation to imply that the woman
isn't exactly making big bucks. Heck, she can't even afford to care
for herself properly - she makes less than 30K/yr. There's nothing
wrong with being a day care provider - in fact I admire her (and you
for that matter) for doing a job most people couldn't do (I know I
couldn't!). But what I do take exception to is her entitlement
attitude that tax payers should support her purposely-bred child
simply because she *can* use the system and can't afford to support
the child on her own. Sorry, but that mentality is just FUBAR. I
have no problem helping people when they come upon hard times. I have
a major problem with people bringing children (or additional children)
into the world when they can't afford to care for them properly.
