Hi guys, I've just diagnosed as having diabetes and I have stated today
taking insulin. Can you recommend any good sites where I can get some
information. I've had a look on Google and most of them seem to be American
and quite a few seem to be really weird. Know any decent British ones?

Diabetes UK is a good place to start -

Thank you Pete - I'll start from there. Funnily enough I was whingeing in
another group about becoming a diabetic and someone else pointed me there
too so it must be the place to start.

Hi,
Diabetes UK deals with t2 not on insulin as well. You might try
http://www.iddtinternational.org/uk which is only for insulin users. Apart
from those two, I don`t know of anything especially suited to your request.

If you are after local information these sites may be interesting too

http://www.yorkshirediabetes.com/
http://www.highgate38.freeserve.co.uk/ (kent)
http://www.ssdg.org.uk/ (NE of UK near liverpool)

or if you are in my area in the South West

http://www.westondiabetes.org.uk/
http://www.burnhamdiabetes.com/

and of course the newsgroup site - asduk

http://www.asduk.bizland.com/index2.html

some more local groups on
http://www.diabetes.org.uk/in_your_area/index.html as well.

As a Type 2 although I had symptoms for years it still came as a shock to
find out I had Diabetes. Although its not easy (especially at first) it can
be controlled with a combination of diet, exercise and either drugs or
insulin - get as close as you can to the normal (non diabetic) 5-7 mmol/L
range.

I am sure you will get more detailed advice from the insulin users on the
group

Thanks guys ( used to be Fred Number Seven but had to change for various
reasons ) I'll give them a try . I was worried that I might be a bit
flippant for a serious group but as you said in an other group that I
needn't worry Mr. Rat, ( at least something like that) I'll be back if I
need to find anything out - you're the experts after all.
