:Anybody know how Nicola's doing?

I had an email from Nikki last week, and using her words "I'm ok, as
ok as I can be"

Nikki has gone back to work, and Nikki is going away for a week Sunday
(I think).

Haven't heard from her since last week though, but she said her net
connection has been playing up in last email from her.

Default News? (down grief abortion stroke cancer)

Oh Ant, you complete darling, thank you for thinking of me. As SB said
(thanks SB) I am ok. As many fore-warned me here, I'm up and down. Some days
I can think of her and even look through her things without crying, even
laughing at the many, many good times. Other days I dont want to get out of
bed, just want to curl up, cry my eyes out all day and feel sorry for
myself. Monday was like that, I called in sick.

I was indeed going to France from this coming Sunday for a week, but
unfortunatly my dad has lost his passport and obviously cant get a
replacement within 7 days. Ho hum. Bit of a bastard but the way it goes.

Also true is the un predictibility of my connection, I checked UPSD just now
on the off chance that it may do something and was amazed to find it worked.
Web seems to be ok too but email is another story.

Work is good, been practically full time now for about 2/3 weeks. Knees
killing me, back feels like it's gonna break, but it's payday tomorrow! Even
though we are not going to France now I'm still taking the week off to have
some "me" time. have some mates over. Catch up.

Whilst I've been in another world with grief, all my mates have had such
disasters too. One nearly died in a motorcycle accident (thank god she's
perfectly fine now but her boyfriend has a broken leg) another had an
abortion, another friend's mum had been diagnosed with breast cancer. So
it's quite gloomy in my world right now, but all of us are supporting each
other. And my great uncle had a stroke.

I think thats it for my news- I'm just focusing on travelling next year.
It's keeping me going.

Thanks again Ant for thinking of me.

Lots of love and hugs to all
Nikki. ***xx

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't there a passport office or
something in London (this is assuming you are from the uk) that can give
you a passport the same day while you wait?

Yes there is, but if you have lost your passport they treat it as a FIRST
TIME! application. Min 7 days. Can be done in a shorter time but I think its
around 100, as least thats what they told me when mine got stolen.

Relieved to hear you're coping, even in a stop-start sort of way. Keep
grabbing whatever 'up' time you can find and don't beat yourself up for
the 'down' time, you need that too.

Default News? (depression)

In uk.people.support.depression on Thursday 21 Aug 2003 12:08 am,

It used to be in a street called 'Petty France', I think. I can confirm the
'same day while you wait' was possible in the 80s, I don't know if it still
is - but the emhasis was very much on the 'wait' - hours and hours! People
had to queue in the street sometimes, it was so busy, and the wait was so
long that some people paid someone else just to hold their place in the
queue (and there were people selling hot and cold drinks and snacks to the
people queueing in the street, sometimes!).

I think that if you lose your passport, as long as you know the number and
the expiry date it is possible to get a replacement - but I haven't had
anything to do with passports for many years, so things may be different
now.

That's a horrid set of coincidences.

Look out World ) it is good to have somethng to look forward to - and
you're right to be taking things slowly, I think, it will take time to
'adjust'.
