Lung cancer (was Re: noni fruit and cancer ??? (cancer)
Hello dragan,
I'm sorry to hear about your relative.
I do not know what treatments are available in Yugoslavia.
Most patients (if surgery is not possible), see a radiation oncologist (specialist
in chemo and/or radiiotherapy)
We realize that desperate patients or relatives latch onto any hope, even "false
hope" that some of these "quack cures" seem to be offering. They often say it's
secret or the "cancer industry" is hiding these "cures". They're not secrets,
they're not cures, if they were the cancer doctors (oncologists) throughout the
world would be using and recommending these products. Noni is something to do with
pineapples. You know this fruit, yes?
Why pay that price for "noni" when pineapples are available in food stores, right?
In fact, if your e-mail address isn't munged <private>, they could start e-mailing
you to try and sell you their "cures". We try to keep this newsgroup and patients
protected from those "scammers".
What type of lung cancer does your relative have?
NSCLC (non small cell lung cancer) or SCLC (small cell lung cancer)
and the staging information (how far it has spread)?
If you're looking at "alternative medications" and want to explore those, perhaps
ask (if someone suggests one to you) on sci.med.diseases.cancer and someone can
answer you there, to keep you out of "trouble:" here.
The Quackwatch page has a lot (but not all) of them listed there
http://www.quackwatch.org/index.html
There are 1000's of "quack cures" out there (that someone's trying to sell) and a
person with cancer could spend a fortune chasing them all down, when the answer is
with a cancer specialist or acceptance if the specialist says there's nothing more
that can be done. Is that's what's happening with your relative?
We'll try to be here for you and provide information and support.
Best,
J
