Default Not Sure The Surgery Worked/ Lap Nissen

Hello Fellow Members:

As you know, I had the Lap Nissen surgery on April 24. Since that time,
I have had the same burning feeling under the chest bone.(Horizontal)
pain. Prior to the surgery and for approximately 2 months I had the
throat issue (LRG). Whats strange is that the feeling of something
stuck in my throat has almost gone away. So I don't know If the surgery
reduced the acid from moving upward through my esophagus. From what I
can tell, I will be taking another 24ph test and a barium swallow to
find out what did or did not happen after surgery. At this point, I
would like to find the right, "prescription ****tail" so that I can be
active again and also to get rid of this burning pain that I have at
the center of my chest. If anyone has been in a similar situation and
has been able to put together a medication system that works, please
let me know.

Take care,

Mike

I agree that another pH test is reasonable. I will guess that it will show
no acid reflux, in which case your symptoms may well be related to EPR due
to tightness of the wrap, or it may be an underlying esophageal motility
disorder that also, hopefully, will resolve once reflux is stopped.

If that's the case, it's should get better as swelling and inflammation
decreases.

Good luck. Please keep us posted.

Dr. Howard

Thanks for your reply. I guess at this point I just need to patient and
continue with the additional testing. I believe your right about the
acid reflux not being present when I do take the 24ph test. I base this
on the fact that my throat seems to be healing. I have an option of
taking a 24 ph test with the "Bravo" system. Is one system better then
the other?

Thanks again,

Mike

Bravo is a 48 hour test and avoids the catheter in the nose. It is likely to
be more accurate in terms of diagnosing acid reflux. Make sure you are off
all anti-acid meds for at least 7 days before you take it.
