Default OCD aint it a bitch?

I wouldn't really care about ocd at all if I could control when and
where I obsess. Unfornatly my brain is swarming with potential
obsessions as if my brain is trying to pick out one. Schizophrenia,
Heart trobules, Nuclear bombs.

Makes it hard to concentrate very well, Ocd and ADD are very common
to me? Is that normal case with ocd symptoms? I find that my brain
will just out of nowhere jump to whatever Im obsessing about as if im
not in control of my own thoughts!

Damn right!

I don't know if this is an OCD thing, but may be related. Last night I was
at the AGM of my local mental health charity. As I was sat there, I was
thinking 'wouldn't it be awful if I shouted out the word "WANKER!!" at the
top of my voice. Last time this happened to me was when I was on a long bus
ride to London. Fortunately, in both cases I managed to resist the urge. Bit
worrying though.

Default OCD aint it a bitch? (job)

i get that one! especially if i'm in a stressful situation, like a job
interview, or a meeting with upper management. all i can think about is
what would happen if i started cursing, or if i vomited, or something
equally awful. it takes over to the point that i have trouble concentrating
on the task at hand.

wanker, eh? now that'll be my new word to worry about. :-)

There has been many a time that I've had trouble focusing in class because
all I could think about was stabbing the person in front of my with my
writing implement.

You never know, you might strike lucky - depending on who's doing the
talking at the time

'wouldn't it be awful if I shouted out the word [pick a rude word] ' Is a
classic OCD symptom I think

The Imp of the Mind - Exploring the silent epidemic of obsessive bad
thoughts by Lee Baer (ISBN 0452-28307-8)

Refers to this one. He refers to somebody worrying about blurting the N****
word. What is interesting is that he refers to "Impulse to say rude and
inappropriate things in public" as an example of 'bad thoughts' thought by
healthy (his words) college students. It is what happens after the urge that
makes it OCD. I know because it sometimes hits me.

Also... I have said here before that Ben Elton mentions the classic ,
shouting something in church during the wedding when the vicar says "Does
anybody know of any legal impediments...."

Ben Elton describe this sort of OCD, and refers to 'the voice' as Captain
Paranoia in his stand up routine. There is the Ben Elton cassette for sale
on UK ebay for 99p - 4208146094

Worth every penny I think.

Aren't Tourette's syndrome and OCD supposed to be closely related? I know
I've got a touch of TS, on top of everything else.

You know, I really should read that book. I've put it off for ages.

It's funny how different words worry different people. Is the N-word
'nigger'? I would have no problem quoting that word (which I think is
different from using it). When I was coming home last night I had to wait an
hour for the bus. A man I was chatting to told me a nigger joke and I
genuinely didn't get it, but I still affected a bit of a laugh. **** knows
why because I'm not a racist.

Thanks. Does Ben Elton have OCD?
