Before i went to the chiropractor for my neck and head pain, I was
taking heavy pain meds and they weren't helping. Thank God I finally chose to try a chiropractor. This was about 5 years ago. No, he has to decide to go. Hope he feels better soon. Take care, Liz -- ========== Please DELETE this text block when replying! ========== Send submissions for ASAPM to: asapm@stump.algebra.com The charter is available at: http://readystump.algebra.com/~asapm ========= This notice is added to each approved article ========== |

Hi, Julima,
Sorry to hear your hubby is in such discomfort. It couldn't hurt to go to the chiropractor at least for an evaluation. I have been trying to get my husband to go for about a year...UGH! They just don't listen... smiles, Elise -- ========== Please DELETE this text block when replying! ========== Send submissions for ASAPM to: asapm@stump.algebra.com The charter is available at: http://readystump.algebra.com/~asapm ========= This notice is added to each approved article ========== |

Yes Julie.
I had severe, intractable sciatica about 9 years ago and all the MD's said I'd need back surgery. I could not sleep in a bed, was FLAT on the FLOOR for 6 weeks. Could barely sit on the toilet. No pain meds would touch the pain I was having. I was scared I was disabled for life. Wondered if I'd EVER walk again. Chiropractic therapy was intensive, 5 days a week for 3 weeks, then 4 days a week for a month.. At this point I could work again. Then we went to 3 days a week for 3 weeks, 2 days a week for 2 weeks, then one day a week for another month. thats 4 months of visits. After the 4 months I was a new person, and maintained my pain-free state with 2x monthly visits. The chiro at that point was only charging me for one visit a month. Yes, It cost me about 2500$ with no health insurance. When I think of the hospital bill I would have had for surgery yada yada yada, I'm surprised more folks don't try chiropractic first. In the State of Maine, Workers Comp pays for chiropractic happily because its recognized as a fast track back to work with less expense and no invasive treatment ( no injections, no meds, no surgery). A chiropractic exam usually consists of an x-ray and some body measurements. This visit is the only visit where you take your clothes off. My treatments were first very minimal--20 minutes on the traction bed which were blissful, The traction bed is a confortable cushion with an imbedded roller that travels up and down the spine, with gentle heat and vibration. This helps to relax muscle spasm. I didn' t graduate to actual "adjustments" until the end of week 2. the adjustments were NOT painful in any way.. At no time did chiropractic cause me ANY additional discomfort. I always felt BETTER after a visit than I did on arrival. Thats my experience-- others' MMV. I've been to at least 10 different ones over the years, none of them did
me any good. The last one I was seeing on a regular basis kept telling me the my so and so was out of alignment. Every time I left there my neck and back hurt more than going in. I had an appointment every 2 weeks. Just as everything was feeling better, and I'd go in to get "adjusted" and leave with more pain again. He kept telling me that I'm getting better and soon I'll leave without discomfort. That never happened. I haven't been to one since. Needless to say, I'm very skeptical of the whole bunch. I'd be more likely to go to a tribal medicine man than to a chiropractor again. Tono, I share your scepticism. Chiropracters can see "subluxations" on
X-rays that radiologists are unable to see. I interpret that to mean they are not present. If something is dislocated or subluxed, it seems to me one or two manipulations should do the trick. As it does when an orthopedic surgeon reduces a dislocation. Yet the typical chiropracter has you coming back three times per week for awhile and then monthly for years.
