Default ovulating but can't get pregnant, WHY? (metformin ovaries job fertility fat)

Hi everyone,

Just got some bad news again, I'm not pregnant, I don't understand, now that
I'm taking metformin and clomid (100mg) I know I ovulate 2-3 eggs, why can't
I get pregnant? I feel so stupid, I can't even do this simple thing right.
I've been trying for over a year, sometimes twice a month (did 2 tries with
puregon, only got 1 egg) and still nothing.

I was diagnosed 2 years ago has being insulin resistant (almost double the
high normal). I have dark patches of skin, overweight (5'2, 250lbs), hairy,
no cysts on the ovaries but we are going with the fact that I must have
pcos. my hsg test showed that they couldn't see the left tube at all so
they assumed that it was blocked, did another hsg 2 months ago and they were
able to see both tubes, so they are both opened.

My RE doesn't want to do a lap on me because I'm too fat and he says that
most of the time they usually find nothing anyway so he feels it's a waste
of time and too high of a risk.

I can't stop doing the IUI with clomid & hcg, I can't handle the thought of
not being pregnant next month and I can't afford the $4,500 cdn (1 cycle) or
$8,900 cdn (3 cycles) for IVF. So my only hope is to continue with clomid &
IUI and hope someday it will work. I don't have the time to wait for me to
save up all that money, I'm already 36 years old.

I'm so stressed out, the 2 other girls that work with me are now pregnant so
I will have to see them every day knowing that I'm a total failure. My job
is so stressing, my dog has a mystery illness that won't cure but we finally
found (after a year of trying different pills) a way to keep it away for a
while with cortisone & my mom & sister keep expecting me to pay for
everything, they think I have so much money when I keep telling them I don't
& to top it off my cousins are also pregnant, my sister & I are the last one
left not having kids, she's younger.

I'm on my own, doing donor insemination as I haven't found the right guy,
took me 4 years to get any help as in Quebec they wouldn't treat me as I was
single and was told to get a boyfriend, stay with him for 1 year then call
them back. For over a year I was going to Ottawa every month, twice a
month. In December we were able to change the law and fertility clinic
could no longer discriminate against a woman's status (single or married) or
by her ***ual preferences, they weren't helping *** people either.

I don't know what to do anymore, anyone have any suggestions has to what I
could do, I'm desperate, I will try anything just as long as it wouldn't
hurt my future baby. I'm now taking extra Vitamin B6 & B12 because of the
metformin. I'm taking baby aspirins.

I'm so tired of waiting, I'm physically exhausted. It's at times like this
I envy rich people, they have sooo much more options available to them.

Oh well can't give up now, I guess in a few days when the prometrium is
gone, I will have to start all over again. If I give up now it will never
happen for sure. It's just so hard, I was so sure I was pregnant this
month, for the first time I had hope.

Default ovulating but can't get pregnant, WHY? (ovaries sperm infertility)

Hi France!
Sorry you have to be here.

Well, if it were so "simple" these newsgroups wouldn't be filled with
people like us, would they? I know what you mean, though - animals
in the wild plop out babies all the time - and here we are, stretching
technology just to get a viable ova...

<Snip>

There are a couple of things that come to mind - women with PCOS/IR
sometimes have underlying immunity issues and/or clotting issues, both
of which will cause early m/c and/or the inability to carry to term
(and possibly affect implantation - the research on this area is not
complete). How much diagnosis have you undergone? Also, sometimes
the ovaries respond better if they have been "rested" a few months on
BCPs - a break can do wonders for your health.

I'm assuming you use donor sperm - if so, it's probably not the sperm,
but if not, then definitely have the sperm tested ASAP - including
morphology.

It might be time to get a second opinion - a reproductive
endocrinologist if you haven't seen one (I'm assuming you have - you
seem to be on top of your situation). Second opinions never hurt.

I don't have any answers for the lack of respect that you receive by
the medical profession. Except to say, "That ****s." Sigh.

Finally, If you'd like emotional support, please join us at
alt.infertility.primary. While it isn't the newsgroup for medical
questions, we are a group of very caring women who understand what you
are going through - many are still in treatment, and we all can relate
to the ups and downs of the I journey.

Take care, and best of luck to you,

-L.

Duh...just wanted to say I didn't notice this was cross-posted to
primary.

Just FYI, we request that nothing be cross-posted there as we tend to
get hurtful posts from secondaries and other junk.

Thanks,

Default ovulating but can't get pregnant, WHY? (miscarriage sperm ovulation)

Hi France,

I've been having trouble too. Most of us here know of at least 1 person
who's having a baby/just had a baby or is pregnant. This is the way
unfortunately.

Just a question, have you had any kind of tests done to see if the eggs are
having a problem implating? Or maybe the eggs are too tough to be penetrated
by the sperm? I was also going to ask if maybe your CM (cervical mucus)
could be affecting it, but you're doing an IUI, so that's that. Also, maybe
you're not producing enough of the hormone you need just after ovulation
which helps the egg implant (I can't think of the name of it at the moment).
We're getting this taken next month a few days after ovualtion. This will
tell alot.

Good luck and I wish you all the best. Keep your chin up...my husband and I
have been trying now for over 2 1/2 years just to get a miscarriage let
alone a baby.

I send some **babydust** to you...

Jo Ann

Default ovulating but can't get pregnant, WHY? (metformin fertility)

Hi France

I am in the same boat as you. I am also a little overweight, but I was
diagnosed with PCOS 4 months ago by a fertility specialist. I was seeing a
GYN for a year and he never found anything. I am also taking metformin
(1500mg a day). I am now ovulating everymonth, but still can't get
pregnant. I suggest you get a second opinion. I am going to start a cycle
monitoring program tomorrow. I understand what you are going through it
isn't easy, but i guess this is the journey some of us have to take to have
a baby.

Good luck

Suzy
