Default Remeron Vs Zoloft (zoloft anxiety)

Seeing a doc on Tuesday, any personal insights appreciated. I was
going to give zoloft a try (GAD and OCD (pyre O)), In reading I
diascovered Remeron which sounds like a possibility for anxiety. I
read that those reacting badly to SSRi often do well on Remeron ( I
failed on Paxil and Effexor- much increased anxiety). Anyone with
experience positive or negative appreciated. I especially would like
to hear from those om Remeron as it is new to me.

Thanks
Richard

Default Remeron Vs Zoloft (zoloft depression anxiety prozac remeron)

r@g bleeted in news:24bm00h96o02r5j78qglsqtj7jeucjiblv@4ax.com:

I'm on Remeron (well its called Avanza in Australia :P). I was switched
from Luvox due to increasing anxiety levels. I've been on it for almost a
year now and the pros and cons listed below are just my experience with it

Pros:
* My depression has lifted in so much now that I can pretty much function
on a day to day level. Some days are awful still though..but I think thats
more to do with life as well .
* Similar to above, I feel more like my old self, and not so numb. I have
emotions
* Due to its sedating effects, it helps me go to sleep.
* I've got my *** drive back. It wasn't until I switched from the SSRI's
(I'd been on ciprimil, prozac, zoloft and luvox at varying times), that I
realised how much they dulled it. To me, its not that important..but its a
plus

Cons:
* Weight gain, I've had a moderate gain (5kg), but alot of people have had
more, and have had difficulty getting it off. (I'm okay as long as I watch
what I eat and exercise - which I've been slack doing lately )
* It did nothing for my anxiety (maybe increased it even?). I'm on valium
for that now though..which helps.
* Sedative effects - when I first took it (half a tablet), I wound up
sleeping for like 20 hours. As my body adjusted to it, effects have worn
off a bit.

I have read that remeron/avanza is a good all around tablet for
depression/anxiety, but I think it does depend on the individual. I
definately think its worth a try..especially if you have reacted to SSRI's
badly.

Default Remeron Vs Zoloft (depression anxiety clonazepam)

I've tried Paxil, Zoloft, and Celexa, and they all greatly increased my
already high anxiety (I couldn't take even low doses for more than 3 days
before I was too afraid to leave my house, flu-like symptoms, etc.).
Remeron at 30 mg is fine for me, it seems to help with the depression, helps
me sleep 8-10 hours a night. It doesn't do much for the anxiety, for which
I'm taking clonazepam (Klonopin) 1 mg 3 times/day. As long as I get enough
sleep, both medications are fine, I'm not lethargic or sleepy during the
day, just calm (which is a HUGE relief).
