Default repost - seeking sane replies and possibly some assistance (down colon arthritis constipation)

Hello group
This is a re-post , as the previous respondent was PEDANTIC, partly
INCORRECT and seemed to mis-understand my CONDITION.
I have CAPITALISED, and expanded on, the significant WORDS, to
endeavour to make my message more comprehensible.

When I found this group by googling around, I was surprised to see so
few posts in it, seeing the large percentage of IBS sufferers in the
world :-(

I'm m.69.au and IBS rules my day. (COLIC, BLOATING and some
constipation, rather than the majority here who seem to suffer from
impromptu Diarrhoea).
However, after numerous "white knuckle" barium enemas dating back from
the '80s, plus several other "....scopies" , my Gastro-Enterologist,
slammed down the lid on his laptop computer, effecting closure for
him, and muttered..."you have mild diverticulae in the transverse,
descending and sigmoid colon, and you seem to be stressful and in need
of a good FART!.....here's a scrip for some Amitryptiline, and they
may help you RELAX enough for that....pay the receptionist on the way
out" ($180.00).
Also my GP told me to get into the fibre and prescribed some granocol.

The Amitryptilyne worked but made me doughy-headed for the next day
and mostly useless for WORK. The fibre BLOATED me more. The granocol
helped a little.

I ALSO have a few other PAIN causing ailments, like osteo-arthritis in
both feet, ankles and R knee, plus Peripheral Neuropathy in both feet
from Diabetes Type 2.
I have been taking Fiorinal Anagesic-Relaxant (pharmacy drugs).
I'm aware that this contains a small % of Codeine Phosphate, which
makes the bowel sluggish, but at the time I take it I need to
suppress PAIN plus RELAX my colon. (It works for me).
This helps me get 5-6 hrs SLEEP, so I can WORK, but during the week I
only have FAIRLY constipated motions even when using the Granocol.
An additional RELAXANT, I use in the early hours of the morning, is
Atrobel (similar to Buscopan) Tablets which contain Hyoscine and
Atropine. I am aware that these have side effects to dry up gastric
juices, but the RELAXANT (anti-spasmodic) component outweighs the
other side effects.

Come Fridays, I have a "big night out" on Magnesium Oxide Colon
Cleanse to de-toxify my week's ac***ulation.

I don't need a SERMON, I would like some HELPFUL suggestions, if there
is anyone in this group, who can relate to my situation. (no snake-oil
please).

Water water and more water. Keep your fluid intake up, as, the medications
you are taken are robbing the fluid from your system, so, no matter how much
fibre you eat you will still get constipated. I have found that natural
remedies rather than medications were better for me, less side effects
etc..... for example prune juice has a natural laxative effect and won't de
hydrate you like a medication will.

I had constipation for most of adult life, i only went two or three times a
month, I only sought help when it flipped to diarrehea in the last year and
was diagnosed as IBS. I really do empathise, and, understand that there is
very little help for constipation.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply.
I do drink a lot of water AND soft drink normally during the days. The
Diabetes T2 dries me out a bit after food, plus I have to keep the
"waterworks" functioning, during my treatment for Prostate Cancer.
Actually, The Magnesium Oxide Colon Cleanse I take at the end of the
week RE-HYDRATES my colon. (you don't need it with your present
condition).
I'm inclined to believe that your years of constipation, could have
caused some toxicity, and may have lead to the problems you're
experiencing right now. You should pursue this with Specialist Medical
persons, (which I believe you are already).

Here's something on your Leaky Gut Syndrome:

You may have already seen it?

rather than Dr jargon.

Codeine is a spectacular drug for bunging you up I have IBS D and it works
an absolute treat for drying it up to the extent where I am actually
constipated (no mean feat) try having a week or two off it, there are plenty
of alternative pain meds that dont have this affect.
I would also suggest drinking plenty of coffee along with your water.

of the wildeness and muttered:

Stopping is negative, like you, and big medical words from a Layman do
not impress me.
You seem to be so troubled you should consider topping yourself LOL

Default repost - seeking sane replies and possibly some assistance (diabetes)

On Mon, 29 Nov 2004 10:46:08 -0000, "sarah n mol"
<sean@molloymol.wanadoo.co.uk> advised:

I chose my ****tail of Pharmacy Meds, simply by trial and error. The
GPs and Gastro-Enterologist couldn't come up with a viable solution.
They gave me Amitryptiline anti-depressants which left me
doughy-headed and useless for work from Mon to Fri. (and also bunged
me up).
I have various strength Codeines in the drawer as well, and I'm aware
of each one's "bunging factor".
The key word I was looking for was "RELAXANT", which Anti-Spasmodics
seem to do to ease the COLIC pains. The other pains I have to deal
with to get to sleep are from Osteo-Arthritis in both feet, ankles and
R knee, plus Peripheral Neuropathy, (a spin-off from diabetes Type2),
in both feet and ankles.
As for coffee, I go to bed early and am usually up at 02:00AM or
before, when I watch a taped movie on TV and drink at least 2 cups of
black coffee. This usually induces a bowel motion, (not world-class),
before I head off to work. Additionally, I don't like using toilets in
the workplace, as I feel like I'm in Grand Central Station LOL.
Next week, I'll be seeing a new GP at a new Medical Centre, so I'll
put him to the test and grade him accordingly.

Clarence Crow

I don't find "topping oneself" to be a laughing matter.

Also I think you are the one who seems to have a major prob. here.

It seems you are the expert on your problem and have beaten everybody up who
has tried to help. This is generally a very friendly, helpful and
informative group.

Get off the Codeine and you may feel better is everyone's suggestion. But
you seem to know best. But I don't think self medicating is the answer.
Let's hope your new Dr. can sort things out. But I have a funny feeling you
are going to tell him he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Ok, let's keep it simple. You are taking several things that cause
constipation, perhaps that is why you have severe constipation. If you were
hitting yourself with a hammer and complaining about headaches, somebody
might suggest you put the friggin' hammer down. There are other drugs that
could help without causing more problems, of course your constipation may be
caused by having your head up your ass.
