hi -
i've had godawful sinusitis for the past 4 months & was told last wk by an
ENT guy that i had polyps. he of course immediately recommended either
surgery or a gigantic blast of antibiotics or prednisone.
terrified of all 3 options; i can't tolerate most meds & after reading so
many online horror stories about the futile - if not dangerous - attempts
at surgical relief, i'm wondering if anyone's had success with polyps
shrinking by nonsurgical means?
at the mo am giving nasonex a go - day3 - even though it's making me feel
completely bloody nauseated, spacey & irritable. was told the side effects
may go away? hmmmmm.
i guess a 'hypoallergenic' diet wouldn't do the trick? homeopathic
remedies? just hoping to find a less invasive solution, if at all
possible, before considering surgery, or whatever else.

You can only prevent or tame small polyps with NasalCrom.
Once you have them as big as i guess yours have becom, you need to get them
lopped off. Find a Doc that will do it in his
office if possible, as long as you are of average age
and have no health problems. I have had as many as 4 a year done
in the chair. Now i am too aged and have delicate health, so
must go to the operating room.

ketoconazole or itraconazole once the disease is under control”.

systemic antifungal
treatment after surgical debridement. High doses of amphotericin B (1-1.5

Steroids can sometimes shrink nasal polyps. But if you're having
difficulty tolerating even steroid nasal sprays, then you might have
real trouble with oral steroids. See if the Nasonex works first.


If you have allergies, then relieving them might reduce the inflammation
and enable the steroids to work better.

But don't waste your money and time on a "hypoallergenic" diet unless
you know you are allergic to particular foods. See an allergist and he
can evaluate you for allergies to inhalants and foods.

Homeopathy is quackery--don't rely on it to cure any condition.

BTW, if you go for surgery, the physician may need to put you on
post-operative antibiotics anyway--to prevent a post-operative infection.

There should be no side effects of that nature from Nasonex.

Are you sure it's not something else you may be taking?

I wouldn't go overboard on the dosage, just to avoid irritating the nose. I
find one squirt a day into each nostril is enough for me, although two is
usually recommended.

thanks everyone; really appreciate the feedback .....

and to don - other than the nasonex, am not taking so much as a tic tac,
so i know the side effects are from the N. it couldn't be anything else
...
i'm wildly 'sensitive' to everything i ingest & that includes food; more
than 2 cups of coffee a day and i may as well have just drunk an extra
large peyote milkshake.

Antibiotics combined with prednisone are a standard of treatment for nasal
polyps, to shrink them and hopefully restore breatheing and sense of smell.
The pain / pressure is due to the pressure they exert which can thin the bones
of the sinuses - permanently and keeping the infection that their obstruction
causes can make you quite ill.

ago.

The polyps never grew back.
