hmac@nospam.net says... Hi, Could you recommend a site where ALL the symptoms of GERD are listed? I ask because I had a sore throat for 1 1/2 yrs that I was told couldn't be from GERD because I was already taking Prevacid. Finally a new doctor and a proper referral to an ENT clearly indicated the throat problem is from GERD and it is being relieved by doubling the dose of Prevacid (I'm taking 60 mg now), plus Gaviscon and more care in my diet - which has been pretty "GERD good" all along. I too have chest pain that isn't cardio and I'm wondering whether a lot of my discomforts might be related to GERD but I've never known it. TIA Louise -- Louise (louise2002@nyc.rr.com) |

Have you had a 24-hour PH test done (either through a nasogatric tube or with one of the new pills)? I believe that that particular test is considered to be the best indication of whether you're suffering from GERD. Multiple things can cause non-cardiac chest pain. In my case, I had both costochondritis (inflamation of the cartilage in the rib cage) and GERD, both of which caused chest pain. The GERD got missed for a long time since the doctors thought the chest pain was only due to the costochondritis (and kept giving me medication for the costochondritis that was actually making me worse since it was irritating my stomach). -- Richard W Kaszeta rich@kaszeta.org http://www.kaszeta.org/rich |
