Default TSH of 2.82 (depression)

Can a TSH level of 2.82 cause hypoT symptoms and maybe even major
depression?

Yes it can. My first TSH was 2.6 and I had most hypo symptoms. Unfortuntely I
didn't question it. 10 months later when symptoms got severe I had another TSH
and it was 6.8 and I finally got diagnosed.

Default TSH of 2.82 (depression antibodies)

My TSH, T3 and T4, FT3 and FT4 are ALL normal but my TPO antibodies were
creeping their heads out just a little bit. I was having hypo symptoms
including depression. I started Armour on 11/2 and I feel SO much better
already.

Jan (I have Hashi's and Graves).

Arjun,

For most folk, the answer is "no".

It is more a question of what the TSH is doing over time. The tightest
current test for hypothyroid is if your TSH goes from 3 to 4 over a 3
month period _and_ if you have hypothyroid-like symptoms then
hyothyroid ought be considered as a diagnosis. Where your Free T4
figures are is also highly relevant.

Most normal folk have a TSH of 1-2, but it isn't that unusual for folk
to have a TSH go out as far as 3 and then come back to 1-2 again.

Hypothyroid and Depression are not linked as in one one causing the
other. Obviously trying to do a normal days work while suffering a
Hypothyroid debilitating fatigue might cause Depression. However,
plenty of Hypothyroid people suffer no Depression.

If it's not linked then why is it listed as one of the many symptoms?

Default TSH of 2.82 (serotonin)

Depression I'm pretty sure is a symptom, I was reading about how T3 plays in
an important role in the transportation of serotonin between cells.

Mary Shomon talks about the link in her book "Living Well With
Hypothyroidism" as does Ridha Arem, M.D. in his book "The Thyroid Solution:
A Mind-Body Program for Beating Depressiion and Regaining Your Emotional and
Physical Health". Also, Stephen Langer's book "Solved: The Riddle of
Illness". These are only a few of the many places where the link is stated
and would be a good place to start educating yourself. They have lists of
other symptoms as well. Best wishes, Jane
