I just tested my Radio Shack "Amplified Stereo Listener With 3-Band Equalizer."

It works very well as a TV aid. Price is $34.99 on the internet Radio Shack
site. Add a pair of earbuds with volume control, $12.95 and a 20 foot
extension for $7.99 and you are in business.

My guess: for 90% of hearing-impaired this would solve the TV problem.

Avoid anything that advertises "megabass" or "enhanced bass."
