Default We had a rough night!

The changes you are making are great! Aside from the cleanliness
issue, those bathroom rugs can be more trouble than they're worth:
they can be a falling hazard. (You might want to think about those
blue pads on the floor in the same way.)

As for the diaper-removing problem, check the fit of the diaper. We
had a vaguely similar problem. My mom went after her Depends - with
scissors! - in an attempt to cut them off of herself. As it turns
out, the fault was mine: I had bought a different absorbency than she
was used to. The additional thickness was just enough to throw her
off.

While you may not have changed anything, if she was lost/gained
weight, or has any chafing, she may just be uncomfortable. Also, it
may be time to just change the style you are using. Unfortunately,
what works one day just may not work the next.

We've had pretty good luck with the briefs -- the ones that look like
"real" *******. Mom was more accepting that they were just a new kind
of underwear. They may be harder for her to take off, too. The
"cons" are that they are harder for the wearer to pull up (especially
as the ability to coordinate the tasks of pulling them up front and
back begins to wane.) Additionally, they are harder for you, the
caretaker, since they are like real underwear and have to be put on
with some amount of cooperation.

Good luck - hope you are getting some sleep!

hello,

when he removed his ''pad'' as we called it time after time after time, and I
got so very cross at times, especially if it had only been on for around 15
mins. later we found he had an urinary infection that was causing his wee to
burn him, it might be worth checking that this might not be a problem.

Dear Margaret,

A very good thing to check.

I think that it is very possible Ida may have had some reason for removing
that diaper over and over a couple of nights ago that she couldn't
articulate to us, since she was OK last night. Hopefully a shower and a new
diaper helped. You have to be like a "mommy" and be a little bit of a
detective about these things. You just never know what it could be!

P.S. After my THR, I had to have a chair higher than the commode seat because
I couldn't bend my hip that far. The one we got and Medicare paid for could
be used over the commode, but it was also fitted to be used as a potty chair.

I bought a bedside commode for my father without a doctor's order.
The medical supply store had him on file for his oxygen so they just
submitted it to Medicare and they paid for it. Now, it's sitting in
the attic gathering dust since he only used it one time before his
stroke and death but I'm sure I'll need it again soon from my mom.

Dear Gwen,

Anything is worth a try. She actually starts to dribble the minute she
stands up next to the bed, as the spots on the rug made apparent. So even
if it helped a little I would try it. I will ask for a prescription for
it.
