hi,

after a post natale depression with some agravations (like bad
relationships and such) i started taking antidepressants and found out
that i felt better with them then without them.
even so, i didnt take any for 7 years and started with paroxetine 4
years ago.
since then i am able to have a very good relation with my lovely son,
able to cope with life, lead a happy life and have a job that is on my
level for the first time in my life ( i am 44!, 2 universities and
several low education - low pay jobs)

because of some worries about the side effects of the paroxetine i was
taking, like heart palpitations, head eaches and weight gain, i
consulted a psychiatrist in brazil (where i came from ) and asked him
to give me some lighter stuff.

so, he prescribed Ixel/ milnacipran.
back in the netherlands: this is a medicine that is not registered
here. i simply cannot get it here!

the doctor here told me to take effexor instead.
well, effexor's nick name is " side effexor" what does not inspire me.

what then?
zoloft?
Celexa?


someone has some nice idea?

and:
i just started with Ixel/ milnacipran 4 days ago. i am taking it
instead of paroxetine. well, i can hardly stand up because of
dizzyness....
i just dont know what to do now....

Tati,
Keep trying. There have been breakthroughs in medicine lately for the
treatment of depression. Many new chemicals are out there. It's a grab bag
for the docs. Remember the body builds up a resistance and it's necessary to
switch. I'm hypersensitive to meds. Any side effect is magnified 10x. Glad
to hear meds are working for someone. I'm forced to do other things to avoid
or minimize depression, diet, activities, no day sleep, humor.

i take wellbutrina nd it really helps me i have been on for 3 months now
and i think i like it.
and drinking caffiene as much as i can in a day helps me!

I was put on Paxil CR. I has every side effect that was listed on the
package. Dry mouth, dizziness, headache, nausea. You name it I had
it. Plus it was only 25 mg. Oh, and whatever you do don't take
yourself on any prescription. I learned the hard way. When I took
myself off of Paxil I experienced moments of confusion and
lightheadedness. So have your doctor wean you off of it.

Zoloft or celexa are just as paroxetine, selective serotonine reuptake
inhibitors , but with a slightly different receptorprofile (where the
action takes place) and hence with different risk of sideeffects.
There is also fluoxetine - Prozac from the same group.
Any one of these should do the trick for you. I recommend Prozac as
first choice because o it is more "gentle" to your organism due to its
T 1/2 ( the time it takes the body to reduce concentration of medicine
in your body to half its level after you stopped intake) wich is about
2 weeks. This means that the time you do not need this medicine and
want to quit, there is a lesser risk of withdrawelsymtoms.

thanks a lot for your reaction.
Actually, as I was already started with milnacipran I am intending to
keep on trying this.
There is already one week that I took milnacipran instead of the
paroxetine I was taking. I am so dizzy I can do anything else but try
to sleep. It seems to me also, that if I eat ANYTHING, this dizziness
gets worse and today I actually had a dinner and had to do some
errands. The punishment is the heaviest headeache ever.

does someone knows how long it is going to take so I can lead a normal
life?
