Claudia (I am not qualified but) these signs sound like milnacipram
is a vary bad idea for you. Also, if you cannot be very precise and
specific in English, maybe you should ask someone to translate for you.

Dizziness -- maybe you mean feeling light headed when you stand up?
-- is a sign noradrenaline drugs are wrong for you. If you cannot
get to sleep then it looks, in this case, as if you are driving your
level of arousal and alertness too high. Finally a feeling of
drunken grogginess and literal unsteadiness on your feet may be
an abnormal opiate response, especially if it gets worse after food.
They are all signs not to use this drug.

You said you have "some problems" with paroxetine. You did not specify
what. Do you mean ***ual deadness (very common in men and women)?
There are a number of things you can do about this. You can take
a "holiday" by missing your dose from Friday morning onwards until
a new dose Sunday evening: the deadness will fade by Saturday night.
You can ASK YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT TAKING A DIFFERENT, OR LOWER DOSE, SSRI.
You can try switching to JARSIN research quality extract of Saint
John's Wort, 100 microgrammes per day -- mainly Serotonin based
but almost never causes ***ual dysfunction. You can also try
bupropion (zyban) 300mg per day which is dopamine based, I can't
guarantee helpfulness for your particular case but I can guarantee
no ***ual dysfunction; not in a drug which actually boosts dopamine!

Default what antidepressant to take? please, some feedback!!! (depression)

hi,

after a post natale depression with some agravations (like bad
relationships and such) i started taking antidepressants and found out
that i felt better with them then without them.
even so, i didnt take any for 7 years and started with paroxetine 4
years ago.
since then i am able to have a very good relation with my lovely son,
able to cope with life, lead a happy life and have a job that is on my
level for the first time in my life ( i am 44!, 2 universities and
several low education - low pay jobs)

because of some worries about the side effects of the paroxetine i was
taking, like heart palpitations, head eaches and weight gain, i
consulted a psychiatrist in brazil (where i came from ) and asked him
to give me some lighter stuff.

so, he prescribed Ixel/ milnacipran.
back in the netherlands: this is a medicine that is not registered
here. i simply cannot get it here!

the doctor here told me to take effexor instead.
well, effexor's nick name is " side effexor" what does not inspire me.

what then?
zoloft?
Celexa?

someone has some nice idea?

and:
i just started with Ixel/ milnacipran 4 days ago. i am taking it
instead of paroxetine. well, i can hardly stand up because of
dizzyness....
i just dont know what to do now....

txs 4 any help!

claudia

Default what antidepressant to take? please, some feedback!!! (celexa)

I am not a doctor. All medications work differently but Celexa has a good
reputation for not having many side effects.

Default what antidepressant to take? please, some feedback!!! (lexapro)

Hi Claudia,

I'm sorry that you're seeing the side effects. Hopefully,
they'll get better with time.

Of the SSRI's, I've found that Celexa and Lexapro to be low
on side effects and effective. YMMV.

Welcome to the group.

Default what antidepressant to take? please, some feedback!!! (effexor)

Hi Claudia

I am on 150mg Efexor, venlafaxine. I have heard about its side effects but
havent really had any. When I first started taking it I got weird dreams but
they went after a while. I am told thats true for most of the side effects
of Effexor, they go after your body gets used to it. Efexor has helped me
alot and i feel much happier. Previously i was on prozac and it did nothing
for me at all (

Unless you are suicidal you shouldn't take any antidepressant. The
research done on these drugs only follows them for a few weeks.
They know NOTHING about the long term side effects such as brain
damage. They know NOTHING about how they work despite all their
claims to the contrary-because they know little or NOTHING about
how the brain actually works. These drugs are developed on animals
using faulty experimental models that do not replicate depression
in people. Furthermore, antidepressants may make you feel better
thus not allowing you to deal with the behavioral causes of your
problems. Some of it is genetic, but much of it is your lifestyle
and the way you relate to others. Instead use vigorous exercise,
providing your health allows it. Daily cardivascular exercise is
the best treatment for depression and it will improve you
thinking, performance as well. Good luck.

The closest drug to milnacipran is effexor, so I would give that a try.
There is no real logic behind the choice of various SSRIs/SNRIs, so I
would just go to a doctor, and say that you were on paroxetine, but would
like to try another SSRIs, becasue of the side effects.

Basically, you're going to have to live with the weight gain, you might
be able to get rid of the headache, but it is important that you find one
that dosn't effect your heart.

I've found that some of the SSRI's are more stimulating than others, with
Zoloft being the most and Paxil and Celexa tied for least. Sorry, I don't
know the generic names off the top of my head. Other than that, side
effects is pretty much the only thing that differentiaties one SSRI from
another. If one worked for you, another one probobly will too. Another
one of them might be worth a try. I've personaly had great luck with
Wellbutrin, with weight loss being a side effect. As it's fairly
stimulating, it might cause problems with your heart though. Your best bet
is really to speak with a psychiatrist.

Funny. How is exorcise supposed to help things if you're too depressed to
get out of bed and too scared to leave the house? I'm a mental heath
consumer who is well aware of the potential side effects of psychiatric
medications. Trust me. They are worth the risk. You just don't get it.
