im currently taking levothyroxine and have been doing for over a year only
feeling a BIT better but no weight loss still tired and spaced out is it worth
asking the doctor for armour or another t4/t3 and do they do armour in the uk,
does t3 make a lot of difference id be interested to know anyones views

If you need T3, then it can be the best move you make. If you don't need
T3, then it might not be the answer you're looking for. Try to find someone
to give you a Free T4 and Free T3 test.

I'm in the UK too. It's almost impossible to get Armour on the NHS,
but you can get it if you are willing to pay for private prescriptions
- there are a few private docs who will prescribe it. T3 is a little
easier to get although still not common. My GP hadn't heard of it and
wouldn't prescribe it until I went to a private specialist who wrote
to the GP and since then I've got it on the NHS no problem. It made
the difference for me. I'd been on T4 for nearly 2 years but despite
increasing doses (up to 300 mcg/day) I couldn't shake the depression
or constipation. T3 cleared the depression in days and the
constipation went over about 3 weeks. I'm currently on 275 mcg T4 and
30 mcg T3. Good luck.

PS - I lost all my excess weight (4 stones) on the T4 alone but I
worked very hard at it.

my weight only went up by a stone i was nine stone now im ten but ive never
been this heavy and i hate it, going to try my gp on monday hoping he might
help

Hello there

Should you have no luck with your NHS doctor, you can get information if you
go to http://www.thyroiduk.org/ and click on "Treatment" on the left hand
side and then "List of Private Doctors". You will see doctors listed by
county who specialise in the thyroid and prescribe armour. It also shows
their consultation fees.

I hope this is of some help. I come from the UK but am currently living in
the USA. I have recently visitied an endocronologist here who has
prescribed both levoxyl and armour. I have been taking them both for nearly
two months now and, to be honest, didn't realise how bad I felt until I
started to feel better. It's like a huge cloud has been lifted and the
whole world seems brighter. My long suffering husband has noticed that I am
much brighter as well. So please try to get some help. Unfortunately, I
think my fat must be stuck on with super glue, because I haven't been able
to remove any of that!!! (You can't have everything).

I suspect that Armour or other T3/T4 combo is probably
what you need long term, BUT have you and the MD gotten
your TSH down to under 1.0 or near suppressed on T4-only?
Sometimes it is a higher dose that is needed. Many MDs
will be willing to try a higher dose of T4 only, so long
as TSH does not go out of range, before they will try
andthing involving T3.

Hi:
Adding Armour to my husband's Levoxyl has made all the difference in the
world. Everybody is different in the kinds of meds they need. His Dr.
looks at the ratio of t4 and t3 and he is in the upper end of both. Still
working on the "sweet spot". Hope you can find the right Dr./kind of med
