Default Back from the Luneyfarm

Ok here I am checking in again after five days absence. I last posted here
last Wednesday morning in a seriously manic state after going without sleep
for several days in preparation for a move from civilization to a hick town
in the middle of nowhere. I just got back from five days in the mental
hospital where a major med overhall was done. Turns out my Depakote level
was so low it was not doing anything. Now instead of lithium, Depakote, and
Wellbutrin, they have me on an increased dose of Depakote, as well as Xanax
and a tiny bit of Paxil for anxiety. Fortunately I got caught up on my
sleep in the hospital and now feel a lot more stable and less stressed about
this move although I still wish the town I am moving to had some size to it.
It also ****s to be 30 years old and have to live with my parents like a
little boy for the rest of my life but apparently a judge in Hicksville
signed a court order in exchange for $500 and a ******* saying I am mentally
incompetent and life imprisonment in the country is the only cure. I
suppose one cannot argue with a judge though. In any case I will arrive in
prison around August 10 or so and from there its simply a matter of waiting
to die. There has not been a single job available in this town in 20 years
though there might be some sort of free labor I could do to avoid boredom.
I don't know how this business of court orders works. Does the court order
stand until that particular judge dies or retires or can it be reversed
somehow? How long should I wait until I attempt to challenge this judge?
Anyone who has ever had a judge determine your life's course help me out
please.

Well, although I can understand being upset with the fact that the "man"
is coming down on you, a 5 day stay probably means that you do need some
outside care and a judge is society's way of signing off on that.

You probably need a lawyer at this point, unless you're in a shape that
you can start learning the system.

I'm facing life back at my parent's house too, most unpleasant.

Hey guys, I'm going to say something very unpopular here. Be damned
glad that you have parents who are willing to take care of you. My
parents have passed on, my siblings couldn't give a hoot about me, and
if anything goes wrong my wife won't be able to handle it.
If I go off the deep end, its "lock him up and throw away the
key" time. Be damned glad that you have some place to go besides a
lock down ward or jail. Hugs, Ralph

There is no way of us to tell what the judge's order says, and what his
legal reasoning was. A lawyer can help you get what you want. And look at
things from your Parent's view; your moving back home is quite an imposition
on them too.

For the record, I'm 28 and have twice moved out of my parents home, but am
now also stuck living with them. In my case it has more to do with
financial need than court order, though. I've lost too many good jobs to
this illness.

Are you really being sentenced to "jail" or are you being subject to
parental supervision or something along those lines? It's not very clear
from your message. If you're going to jail that means it's likely we won't
get to hear from you here which would be a sad thing.

As per my housing situation, I'm on disability now, and theoretically could
get disability housing (shared mentally ill housing), but for some reason
I'm actually considering work again. I was contacted off a civil service
list for a position near home that pays around the same as disability after
taxes, but of course, I'd have health and dental benefits most likely on top
of that so it would be worthwhile.

By the way, Hicksville, NY is the next town over from me and if that's
anything like the Hicksville you are going to, it's not such a bad town.
It's actually pretty central, with two major highways passing through it
(Long Island Expwy and Northern State), a mall (with a movie theater, IKEA,
food court, macys, etc.), there's a big sears accross the street from the
mall, and I even recently discoverred that hicksville is home to a cafe run
by and for the mentally ill (featuring live entertainment, karaoke, etc).
There's actually a lot more than that in Hicksville, but since I got the
impression that you're not moving to the New York Hicksville, I won't go
into much more detail.

that home as i should have been.I agree with Ralph. Now i have no one

I wonder if this is a case where the poster was judged unable to manage his
affairs and hip parents have become his conservators? If this were the case,
it would be extreemly difficult for them to take on this responsiblity from
different coasts.

This would not necessarily mean that he had to live in their home, although it
might if he is considered a danger to himself, but perhaps finances prohibit
him having his own place near them.

Just a possibility.
