Default Dreams, alcohol blackouts, and glutamate reactions in the hippocampus.

I was recently reading an article on alcohol blackouts.

http://www.timesanddemocrat.com/articles/2005/09/20/features/doc432f7914c3bf0621501110.txt

I could not help but notice that the description of the state of a
person in an alcohol blackout matched almost perfectly my state of mind
in a lot of my dreams. I was wondering, is the brain chemistry and
activity during sleep similar to the brain chemistry and activity
during an alcohol blackout?

If so, I was wondering if there were some supplements or food I could
ingest before sleep that would have a positive impact on this brain
chemistry so that my dreams could be more pleasant? I often have
dreams in which I am lost, don't know what to do next, etc., because
things are foggy and change on me so much. It is as if I were drunk.

The article says that, "...The glutamate forms a vital link with NMDA
receptors in the hippocampus, which open a calcium channel, which
carries an electrical impulse with long-term potential to short term
memory...." So is there perhaps something that will aid this process
during my bedtime hours? I'd like to see if it has a beneficial effect
upon the quality of my dreams.

Thank you.

I don't think life is so simple that there is a direct connection.
You might try going in for a physical check-up to see if there is
any marginal health problem causing weakness or whatever, and talk
to some sort of psychotherapist and use cognitive methods to
check out and improve your mood. This will cost money and is
not guaranteed to produce results.

To be honest, if this was the worst I had to worry about, I'd get a
life or take up ten pin bowling or whatever: it's not so terrible.
