THE CHEMICAL IMBALANCE MYTH

http://www.zoloft-side-effects-lawyer.com/default.htm

Although each of the SSRI manufacturers admit they do not know how
their respective drugs work, each claim that they help to correct a
chemical imbalance of the brain. The assumption for each of these
drugs is that if a person is depressed (each and every depressed
person), they have a reduced number of neurotransmitters in the brain
called serotonin. As one well-known psychiatrist put it: “[SSRIs] are
not correcting a biochemical imbalance, these drugs create severe
imbalances in the brain. ... The idea that human suffering,
psychological suffering, is biochemical is strictly a promotional
campaign, perhaps the most successful in the history of the world,
created by the drug companies. We do not even have a technology, a
scientific technology, for measuring what happens inside the brain ...
it is literally a fabrication.”

The next time you see a Zoloft, Prozac, or Paxil commercial, watch
carefully. You will see that, when the drug company explains that
depression is a serious medical illness caused by a chemical imbalance
in the brain, it will be prefaced with the word "may" i.e.,
"depression may be caused by a biochemical imbalance in the brain."
They must preface this statement with "may" because this theory has
not been scientifically established. This unproven theory has been
propagated by the pharmaceutical industry in order to sell
psychotropic (mind-altering) drugs.

In May 2003, GlaxoSmithKline (“GSK”), the maker of Paxil, an
antidepressant in the same class as Zoloft, announced in Ireland (The
Irish Times, Saturday May 10, 2003) that it was withdrawing claims
contained in Paxil (called Seroxat in Ireland and the UK) brochures
that the drug worked by normalizing the levels of serotonin. GSK was
forced to acknowledge that the link between depression and serotonin
levels is unproven and that its claims “were not consistent with the
scientific literature.”

If your doctor tells you that these drugs will correct an imbalance in
your brain chemicals, please realize that more than likely your doctor
got this from drug company representatives as part of the drug
companies’ marketing activities. There is no scientific evidence to
support such a statement. Just because you are depressed does not mean
that there is something wrong with your brain chemicals

"There's a greater and greater attempt by the pharmaceutical companies
to define normal behaviours as signs of illness and therefore as
something that can be treated by their products,"

Professor Allan Horwitz

On 16-Dec-2003, Roger informed us:

whilst you are right that those damaged by the
hideous effects of Zoloft they were not told of
need a lawyer, most people do not actually die but
are simply disfigured or have their liver damaged.

Joining a class action suit is maybe a better way
forward
in most cases.

Zoloft (sertraline hydrochloride)
Have you used Zoloft ? Did you get facial or body
tics as a side effect? If you would like to be
part of a potential class action law suit, send us
an e-mail. Please state when you started Zoloft,
how long you used Zoloft, what your side effects
were or still are. Click here
<mailto:jim@psychdrugtruth.com> to send e-mail.

induced tics. <tics.htm>
I want to hear from you. If you are quitting an
SSRI, it does help to have someone to talk with
during withdrawal. Click here to send e-mail.

Per Pfizer Pharmaceutical, Zoloft "is chemically
unrelated to other SSRIs, tricylic, or other
available antidepressant agents." That Pfizer
statement may be true regarding "chemically
unrelated" but that is where the dissimilarities
end.
What are the real Zoloft side effects? Click here
<zoloftstories.htm> This is only a short list of
what really happens while using Zoloft.
The side effects of Zoloft are in the same league
with the other SSRIs <sideeffects.htm>. Pfizer at
least goes one step further and admits Zoloft will
metabolize in the liver and that people with even
mild liver impairment should use caution and a
lower dosage of Zoloft. "Zoloft is extensively
metabolized by the liver." (From the Pfizer
statements above, if your doctor has not conducted
a full liver test before prescribing you Zoloft,
your doctor has not even read and or understood
the precautions in the Pfizer brochure)
Side Effects Zoloft (sertraline hydrochloride)
Frequent Zoloft Side Effects
palpitations chest pain back pain hypoesthesia
(Partial loss of sensation)
appetite increase myalgia (Muscular pain)
asthenia (Loss or lack of bodily strength,
weakness) malaise (Vague feeling of illness or
depression)
weight increase yawning female sexual
dysfunction male sexual dysfunction
rhinitus (Inflammation of the nasal mucous
membranes) tinnitus (A sound in the ears, such
as buzzing, ringing, or whistling, caused by a
defect in the auditory nerve) hypertonia (Having
extreme muscular or arterial tension)
The above Zoloft side effects are FREQUENT. If you
are thinking of taking Zoloft or prescribing
Zoloft to a patient, please stop for a minute and
evaluate what you are trying to cure with Zoloft.
If you or your patient are currently depressed,
how do you think it will be with all or most of
the frequent side effects with you or your patient
on a daily basis? Will it make things worse?
The above Zoloft side effects are taken from the
Pfizer Premarketing clinical trials.
What Zoloft side effects can you expect after more
than a few weeks of usage?
The list below is taken from the Zoloft side
effects (Postmarketing Evaluation)
acute renal failure anaphylactoid reaction
(Hypersensitivity to a foreign
substance) angioedema (Excessive accumulation of
fluid in the tissues) blindness
optic neuritis (Inflammation, pain or loss of
motion in the eye) cataract increased
blood coagulation times bradycardia (Slowness
of the heart rate, usually fewer than 60 beats per
minute in an adult human)
arrhythmias (An irregularity in the force or
rhythm of the heartbeat) Tachycardia (A rapid
heart rate, especially one above 100 beats per
minute in an adult) Hypothyroidism (Insufficient
production of thyroid hormones)
Agranulocytosis (An acute disease marked by high
fever and a sharp drop in circulating granular
white blood cells)
The above list of Zoloft side effects from
Postmarketing Evaluation is actually much longer
than listed here.
Deaths from Zoloft overdose have varied with the
amounts taken. One patient ingested 13.5 grams and
recovered while another ingested 2.5 grams and had
a fatal outcome.
If you have already quit using Zoloft and you are
NOT currently using another SSRI CLICK HERE
<detox.htm> to find out how to detoxify your body
of the Zoloft toxins.

Default THE CHEMICAL IMBALANCE MYTH (depression)

so how do you propose, in your infinite wisdom, to treat depression? how
about people who feel life is not worth living anymore, who wish they could
just die right now. How about people who just cant take any pressure at all
or cant feel happy at all? happy thoughts?? or do you prefer a more
darwinism approach, just let all the depressed people kill themselves and
only people without depression live?

Judging from the "infinite wisdom" comment, and the fact that I didn't see
the initial post, you're probably replying to someone I've already
killfiled. This newsgroup attracts a few. **Plonk** them and move on.

It's rather disturbing to realize that when you are
born and begin to learn the language, you don't know
how you do it. Later you take classes and learn something
about biology - not everything is known and yet the
biochemical engine keeps churning until you die.

Hmmmmm.
