Default OT: Need more computer help-UGH (urology)

Okay, so you all know my hard drive crashed and I lost everything. I did
save to a CD and recovered most of my files which were Word do***ents and
folders with daily work within them. BUT, but.. when I retrieved them off
the CD, when I try to save to those files (some which require altering on a
day-to-day basis), they say they are README only files and to save under a
different name and location. Why is THAT?

Also, daily work for a urology group I do is stored in folders in Word under
My Do***ents; i.e., Dr. Jones' folder, etc. Every day I add that particular
work file to that folder for billing purposes. The folders are empty. In
the past, when I saved my folders in My Do***ents to floppy disc, none of
these things happened and I was able to retrieve my work with none of the
above-mentioned problems. Any ideas on why this is happening?

Jackie,

Any time you copy a file from a CD, or DVD, to your hard drive, it will have
the Read-only attribute set. You need to clear the Read-only attribute.

To clear the ReadOnly attribute:

1) Right click the file.
2) Select "Properties".
3) Uncheck the "Read-only" checkbox.
4) Click OK.

If all your files are in one directory tree, you can do it in one operation
by selecting the top-most directory in the directory tree, and following
steps 1-3 above. If there are sub-directories in the directory tree, Windows
will put up another window that asks if you want the change to apply only to
the files or both the files and sub-directories. Tell it you want the changes
to apply to both.

I think I figured it out. Apparently, if I put all individual Word
do***ents in a folder, then uncheck read only attributes, then put them back
they way they were, they're ok. Now the big mystery. Where are my daily
work files? WAAH!
