Default Amount of prostate tissue removed by PVP

Someone asked a question about how much of the prostate is removed by PVP.

Although I don't have an answer based on measurements of the prostate before
and after PVP, I did some calculations using PSAs before and after PVP to
come up with an estimate.

Before PVP my prostate was measured using TRUS at about 74 grams and my PSA
was 3.0 Dividing PSA by the volume (74 cc) gives a PSA density of 0.04

One year after my PVP my PSA dropped to 1.6

Assuming that the PSA density remained constant before and after the PVP
(don't know if this is a correct assumption), would say that my prostate is
now about 40 grams. This would be a little more than half of what it was.

So from this crude estimate, I would venture to say that about half of the
inner material of the prostate is vaporized by a PVP.

Surely 40 grams is too much after a PVP. When my prostate was 35 grams about
eight years ago the urologist wanted to do a turp as a matter of urgency.
Needles to say I turned his offer down to wait for something better to come
along.

Derek,

You might be right, 40 grams after a PVP might be on the high side. I really
don't know how big it is right now and I am not inclined to have another
TRUS just to find out. But I do know that it has a big channel going through
it as my peak flow is still incredible fast (50 ml/sec)!

Patrick,

First, I like to read your factual posts. I'm sure you have helped many BPH
sufferers make up their minds about PVP, me included. Thanks.
Your max flow rate is incredible high. I can void at 30+ which is plenty
fast for me.
I wonder if the amount which gets vaporized has much to do with flow rate,
after clearing a nominal channel. I would think that strong bladder muscles
and elasticity is very important.
Then why would they lase more than the "original" urethra diameter?
