Do you know MC Escher's Lithograph "Drawing hands":
http://www.mcescher.com/Gallery/back-bmp/LW355.jpg ? I've put this picture on the wall in my desk to remind me to keep practicing a "healthy thinking" attitude. It is like pulling yourself up by your bootstraps ("bootstrapping"). For me, this Lithograph is a very nice visualization of a positive self-reference. People with a healthy mindset believe that they can do the same like the drawing: starting from almost nothing building up an increasingly happy and healthy life. And just by accepting this very axiom, they actually proof to themselves that this is possible, every day more and more. People with a destructive mindset can be illustrated by the same drawing, *except that the pencil is replaced by an eraser*. They walk the opposite way: they have a happy life, but they erase it themselves by negative thoughts, catastrophic thinking, pessimism etc... ikke |
