After 2 failed IUI attempts, we decided to do IVF. Money was the main
issue, but this summer I inherited some money from my grandparents'
estate. I feel guilty using the money on IVF, since my grandparents
would have loved for us to use it to travel. But, I've rationalized it
by saying that my grandparents would have loved for us to have children
too!

I started Lupron shots on CD21 of my last cycle. Side effects included
hot flashes (mild) and acne (not-so-mild). After 8 days doing the
shots, AF came. I think Lupron is used to make sure mature follicles
don't prematurely release themselves. On CD3 I had an U/S that showed
no cysts. I continued with the Lupron shots until CD7. Then, for 2
days I did Lupron, Repronex, and Gonal F shots. The Repronex shots
were the worst. The following day after the shot, my abdomen was red
and swollen and very painful to the touch. Luckily, the Repronex shots
were only for the 2 days. Starting yesterday (Sunday), I went back
down to Lupron and Gonal F. This morning I went in for B/W and another
U/S. The U/S found 10-12 follicles beginning to grow on each side! I
now have to continue the Lupron and Gonal F shots until Thursday, when
I'll have another U/S and more B/W. The egg retrieval and ET should
probably be next week sometime. So far, I've had no side effects from
the Gonal F.

Hi,

I'm so glad ya'll were able to find the money, what a blessing! My
dh's grandma is letting him access some of inheritance from his grandpa
to help us have a child. I'm trying to talk him into IVF but he is
scared of spending that amount of money and it not working. I told him
it has a far better chance than IUI, but he is again frustrated. He
wants to see another RE (like there's a big variety here in Louisiana).
There's another RE in New Orleans I could try that I heard was great,
but I don't know if I want to start all over again. He wants to go out
of state, but there's no way I could make the appointments daily.
Maybe we need to move.

I hope everything goes well. Keep us posted. Hopefully, I'll be
starting a cycle within the next few months.

Hi Melanie, I hope your US and BW went well... when is your retrieval
scheduled? I'm thinking about you and wishing you and your DH luck!

I don't have the retrieval scheduled yet. I thought they'd give me a
better idea when I went in on Thursday, but they didn't. I have
another U/S and B/W scheduled for Saturday morning. They had to poke
both arms because the first nurse couldn't get any blood from one arm.
The more "experienced" nurse came and took it from the other arm. Both
arms are kind of sore now, so we'll see which one they use tomorrow.
My U/S on Thursday showed 18-20 follicles around 9-10 mm. I'm thinking
that I'll be doing the HCG trigger shot on Sunday, the retrieval on
Tuesday, and the transfer on Thursday. But... we'll see!!!
