I had a top wisdom tooth removed and the surgery resulted in a maxillary
sinus opening which has gotten infected and refusing to heal. My surgeon
told me to rinse my nostrils with salt water and he asked me to perfom it
before him., I took a syrnge of water poured it into my left nostril and it
drained out thru my right nostril, The surgon was surprised and he said how
is water draining thru the other nostril ? There should be no communication
between the two nose openings. Is this correct? I see lot of web sites which
say that water will drain out of the other nostril. My doctor thinks there
is something wrong with my nose. can any one explain this to me or is this

Aren’t the “nostrils” connected posteriorly in the nasopharynx ?

Easy to test whether there is a communication between the antrum and
the oral cavity. Antrum is the maxillary sinus.
The other? Who knows?
I never saw this done …….
