Default How do I put Google on my Desktop?

I want to put Google on my desktop so with one click I can do a Google
search. I went to the Google website and saved it to my C drive. The path
and file name is: C:\ google.htm. I highlighted the google.htm file and
clicked create shortcut to desktop.
On the desktop, I click on the shortcut and the Google page appears. But,
when I enter data and click search, nothing happens. The URL shows
C:\google.htm and not http://www.google.com.
How do I correct this problem?
Thanks
Paul

I take extra effort to keep Google *OFF* my desktop.
Many websites try to give me a Google toolbar I don't want.
I've already made Google the default search engine in my Internet Explorer.
That's enough for me.
