I installed the DVD/RW a couple of months ago and things ran smoothly
until just recently I've noticed that the DVD rom door opening at
start up. When it does the lite will stay on and after a few times to
attempt to close the door via the button it will eventually close. It
can then at any time of being on the computer will open. I've also
noticed that when I attempted to record a CD it did not work. Any
suggestions?

Check Ide cables.Try another rom drive.Try drive in different computer if available.

Is there a disk in it or empty?Could be malware-joke program but sonds
like hardware issue. >
