Hi there, usually the message passed into BizTalk has very important business
meaning. Our user want to know where it is , how many things is still
pending, and so on.

I knew there is a BAM ( a site built on top of sharepoint ) , but we already
have a existing site for user. My questions are:
1. What kind of info BAM can expose ?
2. Does BAM or BizTalk in general provide sort of API so that I can build my
own GUI to fit into my own monitoring need?
3. Do I have to use BAM , is there some existing ways to build my own?

Any inspiration is appreciated.

Here are some answers.
1. What kind of info BAM can expose ?
You need to modify the Orchstration and you will need to enable tracking on
some feilds. Its an big process to start with it.
Need to define all KPA required in BAM excelsheet then published and enable
listener using DTS............
2. Does BAM or BizTalk in general provide sort of API so that I can build my
own GUI to fit into my own monitoring need?
Its not there in BTS2004 but avaliable in BTS2006.
3. Do I have to use BAM , is there some existing ways to build my own?
It depends on what exact reports you are looking at but you can pull the
reports input by creating querry in HAT and using them programetically to
post to other applicatons.

I am trying to get some senario where I can practice more on BAM can help you.

Thanks for the information. Here is my case : 1. we have a exsiting site for
our clients . It's ASP . Thru this window , we expose lots of business
features ,like submit transaction, checking the result ,and so on. 2. We also
have several in-house apps that support all these businesses, and we want to
use BizTalk to guide the overall business process. 3. What we want is thru
the existing window , user can a)check each individual request's status (
some of the process may take days) b)some statistic info/report c) Part of
the process may be human workflow, where we want user go to the same window
to process. In short, integrated portal is something we are looking for.

You can directly query the BAM views in SQL Server so you should be able to
"BAM Enable" your processes and then use simple SQL queries to give
information such as status etc. You can use this data as needed to drive
other queries, generate reports, etc.

Hi walter,

BizTalk is a great choice for the kind of problems you described. It
looks like there is no BizTalk solution in place if I were to judge
based on your 2nd point. BizTalk is very good for business process
management (BPM), EAI, and B2B, exactly what you seem to be after. BAM
is a tool you can leverage for business monitoring, after your solution
is in place and all the flows are covered, because the data is
extracted at runtime from the actual live system. Before that, you will
need to build the solution and it is hard, if not impossible, to
comment specifics without proper understanding of flows and
requirements.

Also, BizTalk will lay out for you the basis for the portal
integration, but you should give the portal decision more thought.
There are inherent problems related to portal integration and you may
want to consider alternatives.
