Default Cant share printer as used to

Hardware:
Computer1 with Win2000 and wired to Lynksys wired router
Printer1 (laser) attached to computer1 via USB
Computer2 with Win XP SP2 and wireless to a Lynksys wireless router
Computer3 with Win XP SP2 and wired to Lynksys wired router
Router1 Lynksys wired linked to wireless router on switch1 for both routers
Router2 Lynksys wireless receiving cable modem via RJ45

Problem:
I can’t access printer1 (network shared) using computer3. The only way to
have access is by first going to “view workgroup computers” then clicking on
the computer1 that has the printer wired via USB and then filling the pop up
screen on (computer3) about user and password to access computer1.

In the past, using computer2, I was able to use shared printer1 with out
having to fill user ID and password but computer2 died so I bought computer3
and later, I revived computer2 (new hard drive and new Windows installation)

Now, neither computer2 nor computer3 will gain access to printer1 unless an
ID and password is set. I don’t want to give IDs and passwords to the girls
using computer2 and computer3… they are blond… if you know what I mean (joke)

I DO see all computers by clicking on “view networked computers” either on
computer1, computer2 or on computer3.

I have a Versalink but that shouldn't matter I don't think. You should be
able to set an Add Printer connection and in doing so, fill in the box for
the path to the printer. Re-check on the printer computer to be sure the
printer is shared of course.
I thought I had the same problem but it was because I couldn't splell<g>
the path korrickitily. I noticed the Search for Printers next, and problem
over; it found the printer on the other computer and set the path correctly.
WGLLT now!

I am not sure I understand well your post...

I did followed the commands on "add a printer" but I did not typed the path
(not sure that I will do it right) instead, I "browse for the printer" and
printer1 was added... again, once I try to print, I will receive an error box
that states "there is an error printing on.... etc " It will only work if
first I access computer1 and I type ID and password... then printing does
work. I did not have to type ID and password before.

I apologize. I misunderstood you. The case you described is what I was
trying to ask if you had done.
I do not know how to stop typing the ID and password. Maybe someone else
here can help.

One important thing regarding sharing between computers is to always specify
XP home or XP Pro. For XP Pro, you must have the ladies log in to the
computer using a user-ID and password. Ant you must have a matching user-ID
with the same password on the computer sharing the printer. If the computers
are XP Home, you can enable the guest account on the print server.

You're not required to have a password with XP Pro or Home, which I am
running here. You do however have to have the password box pop up so you
can click OK or press Enter instead of a password being entered.
A server Version, however, will require the password to be used.
