Hey Mohammed, in my experience, the MCSE certification by itself is not
enough to give put you at a specific range. I interviewed helpdesk
candidates that had MCSE's + field technician experience (and they didn't
get hired) trying to make $29,000.00.

The MCSE or whatever certification is more like a guide that help you study.
It doesn't hurt to have the certification though. Once you work hard get you
certification and job experience, then you are about to make big bucks.

It's my opinion that Microsoft certifications are as worthless as the paper
that they are printed on. I've walked way too many MCSE's through far too
many elementary procedures to give it any weight at all.

Getting a certification is nothing. Start small and get experience along
with that certification and whatever you do, do NOT flaunt your
certification as some sort of credential. It simply means that you crammed
your head with a fraction of the knowledge required to do the job and you
only retained it long enough to take a very simple test.

My advice: Get that MCSE, get a small time job as a computer repair tech in
a shop somewhere, get some experience, work your way into REAL networking
(not just Microsoft's version of it), take some independent courses and
exams, and work your way up the ladder as your knowledge and experience
warrants.

I know that I may sound mean or ****y when writing this but that's not the
intent. I'm just tired of seeing you guys try so hard and fail over
something like an MCSE certification. Employers just don't really care
about that any more. Experience and accomplishment is the real gold. What
ever happened to good old College degrees?

I am A+ and MCSE 2000, i went to a boot camp last year.. INTENSE SCHOOL. I
have been doing the small time Tech Job thing for almost 8 years.
Freelancing on myown doing Web Design and building Custom PC's and
installing small business networks(1-2 servers and <25 clients) including
remote access via VPN and such. I have worked with Win Serv 2000 and W2K3
Server. THe reason i went to bootcamp? I couldn't even get an interview for
a full time position in IT. The MCSE isnt worth a shit but at least you can
get an interview after you have the letters behind your name.

I also make 42K a year dealing BlackJack and its hard to find your first IT
job that pays at least that amount.

Getting the EXPERIENCE that you suggested is very hard with the small time
tech jobs, alot of the hardware and software that big Corps use are not
needed my the 1-2 server small businesses.

Us youngins in the field need the MCSE just to get looked at. And if a
company takes a risk on us HUNGRY troops and we fall on our faces.... you
old farts will get the interview next week after they fire us... whats the
problem?
