Default Check Disk log decypher.

Hi! to you all. My computer began to do a chkdsk each boot, but
indicating the HD was ok. I ran Checkdisk from the HD
properties/tools/errorchecking.

Next boot, checkdisk ran and gave a clean bill of health.

Then to Controlpanel/Admin tools/eventviewer/Applications then the
last winlogon.

I see "The USA check value 0x0 at block 0x3 is incorrect. The
expected value is 0xb. (the 0 may be o)

This repeats about 100 times but with different expected values.

Run checkdsk with repair faults ticked numerious times, same result.

The HD is 6mths old had a relatively easy life on a home computer.

With the above incorrect values the computer runs perfectly with no
check disk run on bootup.

Can I fix this problem?

Is it a serious fault?

Does this indicate an ailing HD?

Thanks for your interest?

Greg. WinXP SP2

1. Try the chkntfs <dirve>: /d command, then the chkdsk /f command.
2. If you still have problems, boot from the XP CD and take the first
"Repair" option to enter the Recovery Console. Use the chkdsk /r command in
there.

Yes, like this. (If the disk concerned is your main disk then you'll
have
to boot on the Windows CD and use the Recovery Console. In that case you
can skip steps 1 and 2.)

1. click on your start menu and open the run dialog.
2. type "cmd" and return (note: dont enter quotes)
3. Next type "fsutil dirty query x:" where "x" is the letter of the disk
4. If the return message indicates that the volume is dirty go to step 5
5. Next type "chkdsk e: /f /x" (note: spaces before the /)
6. After that finshes repeat step 3.
7. If it is no longer dirty then reboot and it should be OK

No. Just annoying.

It could do but probably isn't as when the chkdsk runs it says
everything is OK. Just a glitch in Windows.
