Hi Group

My C (80gb)drive was starting to give a little trouble, and like most there
was always a shortage of room for the apps I use.
So It was time to upgrade the drive, a 130gb was obtained and fitted, yet
when I come to run up the machine for installing XP all I get is "Error
loading OS"

So I tried my windows startup discs, go through the six of them and end up
with a message "Setup cannot find a cd-rom drive"

I have the windows xp in the cd drive, the reading light shines then goes
out and the disc is not read.
Please can anyone advise me how to resolve this issue.

Looks like to you need to go into BIOS and change the boot order
settings, so that the CD-ROM boots before the hard drive. I have mine
set to floppy, CD, hard drive, in that order.

Triple check your jumper settings while you are checking the boot order.
Either Master (and Slave) or Cable Select, but not a mix on the same cable.

Modern IDE drives should use a 80 conductor cable. AFAIK, CD ROMs/DVD could
use either.
