Default Windows already activated

I blew my K7S5A MB and put in a newer model, L7S7A2. XP complained and
I had to reactivate. This was no big deal.

OK Julian if XP wants you to activate then it does not have the
correct activation files in the System 32 Drive or the activation
process got corrupted somewhere.

If you can't boot into Windows at all and cannot access your Windows
Folder any other way, you are going to have to re-install XP and re-activate,
If you can get into Windows go to My Computer > Tools > Folder
Options.

View Tab

Uncheck the "Hide extensions for known file types" box
Check the "show hidden files and folders" button
Then search for the wpa.dbl and the wpa.bak files in the Windows >
System32 Folder and remove them (don't delete save them somewhere else
or rename them in place).

Reboot Windows and it should then allow you to activate as you have
removed the files that report activation status.

If this works OK you can get rid of the original wpa files then take a
copy of the new ones just installed by the activation process. If you
need to re-install in future copy the saved files back into the System
32 folder after re-installing to avoid having to activate again.

Julian if XP is Happy whats the problem?

XP obviously is not happy otherwise you would not be posting requests
for help. If its an activation problem, try to re-activate it as I
posted before or take it to a PC shop and get them to fix it, or e
mail MS for help, or re-install XP and start again, you can even try
an activation crack if you want; some actually work but you need to
fix the activation. There is no point in trying to use a machine with
activation issues or argue the toss about it, it is either activated
or not.

Start from scratch with a clean re-install if you have to.

It's not me asking for help. Someone else here has done the same thing
and got into all sorts of trouble. I can't see why.

OK I can see whats going on a little better now.

Boot into Safe mode is fine but boot into normal results in the
"Activate Me / Log off" routine.

It could be the activation routine causing the problem but it could
equally be a driver issue long before that, the Activate me bit is
just the last part XP runs before losing it and crashing.

Try boot logging.

Get to the safe mode screen.

Instead of running "Safe Boot" run the "Enable Boot Logging" option
this will save a log file of everything that happens during boot up to
a file called ntbtlog.txt which it will save in your Windows folder.
Then go back into Windows via Safe Mode and have a look at the file.
The last entry will more than likely point to the problem but there
could be errors logged earlier also.

8-)

Fix what? I switched MB, had to type in the activation key from the
sticker I put on top of the case and have NEVER had any problems.
